A friend of mine has always owned boxers (22 yrs) and since bradie has been sick he hasnt wanted to drink very much. She told me to give him pedialite to help him from getting dehydrated. I ask my vet and she told me no, but didnt give a reson why not. I would like to find out if anyone here has did so and if it worked. I have only been able to get him to drink, if i put my finger into the bowl and swirl it around and try to intice him. Im willint to try anything at this point. any advice? Thank you in advance.

You could try ice, sometimes they will eat ice instead of drinking. Not sure why the vet would say no to pedialyte.

Pedialyte? What about Baby Orajel for teething?

I don't know why the Vet wouldn't want your dog to drink pedialyte either but I do know that every dog I've had loves to have an ice cube in their clean bowl and can get fluids that way.

I have a question. Xena has been up and down all night with some teething. She is 11 weeks old and lost 2 or 3 of her front bottom baby teeth in since yesterday afternoon. Her gums have looked a little redder and more tender than usual. She had a slight fever and red eyes and was quite cranky the night before that so I gave her one half of a children's orange flavored low-dose baby asprin and she seemed to sleep better that night and her eyes are better and her fever went away.

Can I rub baby Orajel on her gums once a night if she wakes up again like she did last night whining and trying to chew my finger softly but then yelps when her sore gum is touched.

Our vet will likely say no to any kind of human teething aid like yours did to pedialyte.

I have used pedialyte when my baby was sick with pnemonia and she was getting dehydrated and it worked just fine for her. As far as the baby orajel I would be hesitant to use that I don't think that she needs anything like that maybe some chews that she can help get the teeth out and new ones in. The baby asprin probably won't hurt her but I think I would get advice from the vets as to how much. I always get advice from my vet so I don't give my baby something that could hurt or poison her. Just like grapes, I never knew they were highly poisonous to our babies, but they are, I think that these babies are way to precious to use something on them that the vet says no to or that you haven't consulted the vet about. As far as the pedialyte, I, too, do not know why the vet would say no.

Tie strips of a towel in knots, wet it then freeze the towel. Your pup will love to chew it and it will numb the gums.

ps ask questions not related to the original post in a seperate thread instead of threadjacking

Thanks. I know about the grapes and also the deadly pre-op anesthesia.

Thanks. I still want to hear if anyone else has used anything like baby orajel. I know our babies can't have grapes, chocolate, onions, and also there is a pre-op anesthesia that starts with an A that I can't remember the spelling so I won't write it here wrongly that are very deadly to our babies.

Also, my baby is allergic to vaccinations. Specifically, we believe it is the Leptosporosis portion of the puppy shot so she goes through a lot and we forbid her to get the combo shot with the optional Lepto vaccine in it since it nearly killed her the first day we had her. She had to be in the hospital overnight due to severe allergic reaction to the vaccine that included a prolapsed rectum which thankfully healed and is normal without surgery. She had to take benedryl and steriods for 4 days after that and now she has to go to the vet all day when she gets a shot so she can get IV steroids before the vaccination and has to be observed all day afterwords.

We know that she can have half a baby asprin because our vet let our dachound have them and when she was full grown she was only half the size that our puppy Xena currently is (17lbs). We also know not to give it more than once in 24 hours and if the fever returns we have to take her to our vet. Asprin can damage dogs' kidneys so we are very careful about that.

I will definitely do both of these suggestions. I wasn't aware that I could start a new thread myself. Now I know. Thanks.

I don't know why your vet would say NOT to give Bradie Pedialyte? I know there have been many people here on BW who have, in the liquid form and popsicle form, and have had no ill effects. I've tried to give it to Herkie, and he refused it! When the plain was in his bowl, he'd just go up to it and knock the bowl over, and just turned his nose up at the flavored. Hopefully Bradie won't be a choosey as Herkie. Still sending vibes Bradie's way!

pedialyte

I've given it to my T when he was sick. I do also give him ice cubes as a treat. He loves them. I've even given my dogs childrens tylenol. My vet told me that alot of medicines they give animals are actually people medicine. Just different dosages. But always ask your vet first. If you don't feel comfy with their opinion, get a second. I always do.
