Siris had an allergic reaction. I've given him Benedryl regularly through out the day, called the vet twice. They say just keep doing what you're doing. Now he's hungery. I'm afraid to give him anything. I thought I read on here to give boiled rice and chicken. I've used the "search" but can't quite find what I'm after. I feed him California Natural. I did give him a bath with my (Pantene) shampoo. I usually use baby shampoo but couldn't find it and he was really muddy. I had to wash him immediately. Does anyone have any suggestions on very inert food?

Thanks, Carmen & Siris

What kind of reaction? Why are you concerned about giving him food? If you're looking to feed a bland diet you can give boiled chicken or hamburger and rice for a day or two if he has been vomitting.

I looked up "hives" on the "search". There was alot of good info there. That's what he had...hives and a swollen face. I looked up allergy and allergic reaction earlier.

Thanks anyway, Carmen & Siris(poor baby).

Dogs have a completely different skin ph to humans so it's not wise to use any human shampoo on dogs....I think plain water would be better than Pantene or baby shampoo. Hope that Siris is feeling better soon, and I don't think what he eats will have to be too bland as he hasn't been vomitting. Hope all goes well...

When ZsaZsa had reactions, I fed her normally. I thought that it was probably better if she ate and I was glad to see that she had an appetite. Her worst reaction started on a Sunday morning and was better by Monday but it was still visible (eyes still puffy and red). I know that you could have a different situation on your hands, though.
Good Luck

To feed chicken and rice, you just boil the two together (50/50 mix) until the rice is mushy. Just add enough water so that it is rice is nice and mushy and they are both well cooked.

I've learned alot with this experience. I get our food at a natural pet store. She gave me the "what for" about pH and dog vs human shampoo. I was just doing what the breeded told me. Not any more though, from now on I'm going to research things thoroughly. Thanks for all the great info...to all in the past posts as well. I spent five ours reading about allergies and "hives". Siris is getting better. It's not resolved yet, but it is better.

I figured out it was the new bedding I bought about two weeks ago. I noticed every time he came out of the kennel he was worse than when he went in. I took the bedding out and not a single welt in the morning. I'm so relieved!
Thanks again.
