I contacted a trainer that came highly recommended who has experience working with aggression, resource guarding, etc (she works with the local K-9s, also). It was her opinion that we should never have been given a dog at all who resource guards, given that we have children - exactly as you all said. :(
She also said that K's sounds pretty serious, given that she even resource guards water, which is apparently very rare.
Now I have to talk my Dh into giving K up, because he sure does not want to. I don't either, but the risk is too big.
I appreciate so much the replies I received, because I was really doubting myself.
I'll keep you all up to date and I'm hoping to be allowed to follow K's story, also. She's such a sweet companion...... :(
Now, off to look through the boards for help with some issues with Five-0, which I now realize I need to get a handle on before attempting another rescue.
And for the person who said they hoped that this did not turn me off rescues, absolutely not. K is a sweet girl, she's just not right in my home. I still feel strongly that Five-0 needs a buddy and I know we'll find the right dog. In the meantime, I'm going to work on Five-0s recall, down and stay. In dealing with both dogs, I realize that Five does not do those things as well as I need him to when dealing with two dogs at once. I'm going to get him into training with this trainer asap.
Thanks again!
