Thanks Alot everyone. She will have a full boxer life with her new family even if I have to go to jail over it.

I would do the same as you are doing in a case like that.

No dog should have to endure abuse, I like you would like to strangle animal abusers. I hope the owners are not on this site reading all this, I thought about that when I was reading. Maybe they are glad she is gone or maybe they even dropped her off themselves on that road you never know about these kind of people . I always wonder why they get a dog in the first place.

Sil,
If they were on this site OLLy would have kicked them off. I think that OLly and the other Mods know who these sick people are.

Pep ~ Maybe this is wrong of me, but you cannot give Abby back to those people. I'm sorry, but based on those pictures Abby has clearly been neglected. Please take A LOT of pictures of her in case you should ever need them. If the owners find you, you need to have a plan. Please get some advise from the human society on what to do in a case like this. I would also call your local rescue for advise. They probably know a lot about these situations. You are a kind soul. Im keeping my fingers crossed for you that they arent even looking for her. My guess is they are happy she is gone.

Kudos to you for helping this pretty girl out. Like Peggy suggested, get advice from the humane society and your local rescue on what you can do to avoid giving her back to the owners. You may also consider consulting an attorney. I don't know what they could do to help, but better to cover your butt. Definetely keep taking photos and get a written statement from a vet stating the condition she is in. Keep us posted! And shame on people who would abuse their dogs. I can not conceive of such a thing. I wish there were more folks like all the Boxerworld members on this planet.

You have done a good thing by taking in a stray however legally you can be in for a world of trouble. I would recommend you go about this the right way instead of hiding her from her family(I am using this term very loosely). Of course you don't want to see her go back to the situation she was in but what you are doing is breaking the law. I just came across a situation like this myself and had to surrender the animal to the rightful owners. As hard as this is, it is important to uphold the law. I seriously recommend that you contact your local humane society and follow the proper procedures to adopt this girl. Trust me, in your heart I know how you feel but in the end it will be worth the peace of mind to do it properly. Have you had the dog vetted yet? If not, make sure you get documentation from your vet as to the condition and any health problems the dog has. Check to see if she is microchipped, etc. Legally animals can be taken away for cruetly and then adopted back out...I am sorry you are having to battle with this and in the end I hope you win but I think it's best to do the right thing and seek out legal help.

On another note, if she did not have a collar on you can take her to the nearest animal control and they are not required to hold her for any length of time for her owners to claim her. She can be immediately put up for adoption. You may want to take her in and let them know you found her and then turn around and adopt her ..although you may have to pay for her, it was done legally ;) and there can never be any questions asked!

Good news - Bad news.
We let Abby go with her owners. The owners called me on the phone, and asked if I had a girl boxer. When I told her no that she ran away for me she started to cry. Then she told me that she was on Chemo because she had a tumor on her teat. Well anyways I told the Women that I would have to call her back. I talked with my hubby and deiced that Abby needed to go home to her Mommy. They were looking for her all Day. They put up posters, went to the vets in town. So she is home with her mommmy& daddy. She was really happy to see them. We talked for an hour while they were her. I guess I was wrong at least we know that npot all people are bad. Also they understood why I did what I did.

I know that you are heart broken but I am sure it warms your heart to know that they cared for her. How did they explain her weight though? The cancer may be taking it's toll :( Bless you for taking her in and bless you for doing the right thing. I know how you must feel. (((HUGS)))

Jamie, I am glad that Abby's owners hadn't been cruel to her. I think it was natural for you to have thought what you did, but you showed true character in returning her once you found that was not the case.

Did they say how she came to be wandering with no collar or tags?
