Need Help Now!!

Anybody out there now?! Boxer covered in hives!!! Switched food, other dog wearing bandana with new fabric softener....don't know!? Someone tell me if giving my kids generic benadryl is ok!!! I'm waiting ten minutes for a response and then I'm going to have to do something! Poor girl is miserable and looking at me for help!! THANK-YOU!

I use generic benedryl all the time - my vet says the dose is one mg per one pound of dog weight - i.e., one 25 mg pill per 25 pounds of dog weight - 2 times a day (every 12 hours). If your dog has trouble breathing, go to the emergency room immediately.

PS I always use hypo-allergenic soap for my dogs stuff and no fabric softener. They don't need it and it might be reactive to them.

Don't know the strength of the syrup, read the label and translate the mg. per pound weight dosage to the syrup amounts, I would assume.

I have "alergy elixer" It's antihistamine but also for sneezing runny nose etc! Is it okay??

I don't know about the other antihistamines - I think the generic benedryl is called "dipenhydramine." If you have something different, I would call the emergency vet and ask them.

Read the label and determine what is the chemical in your "elixir" and call someone to find out if it's okay to give. Or run to the 24 hour pharmacy/drug store and get some benedryl. Whichever is quicker. I always have benedryl on hand because Boxers are so sensitive and hives can come up in no time flat.
