my son just adopted a boxer..he looks like a boxer pit mix to me...there are a few issues with him first he inhales his food then vomits it back up, he is under weight ,how do you teach a dog to slow down his eating..
the next thing is both his k9 teeth are cut down so he has no points on those teeth....i'm realy upset thinking he might have been used as a bait dog he gets along with my dogs great but he seems unsure of himself like he don't realy know how to play or run with other dogs..i don't know i just feel alittle un easy about the whole thing ,is there anything he should watch for.he is totaly in love with this dog and is willing to do anything for him..
my son tried to register with bw but its closed right nowfor new registers any way is anyone can give us advice it would be great......

On the inhaling food, you can put something in the bowl, a rock, Kong, something relatively large so he has to eat around that. I've also heard of some putting it on foil on the floor and it slows them down as well. You can also stuff a Kong for his meals, a big one, which will slow him down because he has to work to get to the food.

Good luck!

I have some friends who only put down a handful of foot at a time so that the dog starts to eat more slowly. They put it directly onto a towel on the floor and spread it out slightly - it works for them.

I would give him time to settle in, the re-assess the situation. Good luck.

If you don't know his true past history, the canines could have been filed down for something else. You could get your vet's opinion on it. I would give it more time to adjust/settle in too. Work slowly with him. Definitely add something into his food bowl to help him slow down.

he sounds like he will fit in fine, like the others have said he needs time to settle into his new home and as for the food alittle at a time should do the trick again though once he realizes no one is going to take his food and its going to always be there for him he will slow his eating habits down, you mentioned he was thin he probably had to either scrounge or eat his food fast to claim it. good luck to your son and his dog and if you can post some pics id love to see him. :)

You've gotten some good advice, I just wanted to chime in and welcome this little boy to BW. He sounds like he will soon be a wonderful part of the family. Congrats on the new addition appicon .

One more thing on the eating too fast issue, you can try to spread the food out on a cookie sheet. I did that with my boy and it worked very well. :) I hope everything works out well with him, sounds like he has found a good home. Bless your son for giving him another chance at a good life. :)

Dozer was the same way with playing and just not being comfortable for awhile after we adopted him. It was like he was always walking on eggshells and was afraid he wasn't pleasing us. It took him a few months to fit in and play normally. He still flinches after a year and he isn't as cuddly. Other than that, he acts normally (or as normal as a boxer can.) He too was nothing but skin and bones but he never gulped food, his severe underbite may have something to do with that.

Give him time to feel comfortable, just remember that his whole world has changed and he may not know what love and living inside and having food to eat and water to drink is normal.

His teeth may be worn down from him chewing too, trying to escape from a cage or something?

Kudos to your son for adopting him!

Just wanted to echo what the others have said - give him some time to settle in. And congratulations to your son on rescuing this wonderful baby.
