I just got a six week old female, and I noticed a couple of days ago that she has a rather large bump where her back meets her neck. It doesn't feel very hard, and I can move it around slightly with very little pressure. Also, whenever I touch it she doesn't act like she is in any pain. I don't know if I should take her to the vet or wait a couple of days and see what happens. This is my first boxer, so any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Hmmmm...I can't help but wonder if that's a knot that formed when her vaccinations were given. They are usually given in that area. Your posting is not the first I have read with this question and the others, if I recall correctly, were due to vaccinations.

I would watch it to ensure it does not get bigger.

It just occurred to me--have you taken your pup to the vet yet for her first check-up? If not, it can't hurt to ask when you do so.

BTW, congrats on your new girl!

Thanks for the reply. She did get some shots 4 days ago, so it is possible that they are causing the bump. How long should I wait for it to go away before I take her to the vet? By the way, the knot is probably about an inch and a half in diameter.

Is the knot really that large? Wow. Is it right where the vaccination was given? If it's that large, I would call the vet and ask about it. I wouldn't get too worried yet. As long as her behavior hasn't changed, ask the vet about it and watch it. I call my vet when I get concerned, rather than rushing in. Obviously, I keep calls to a minimum, but he/she should be happy to respond to your conern over the phone, especially since you were just there.

Hopefully some others will respond later today, as I am no expert on this! I adopted my girl when she was 13 mos.
