Hi, Can anyone tell me through experience if it is safe to have two male boxers in the same household? Is it better to have two females together?

I'd really like to have 3 boxers but want it to be a safe situation. I would prefer two males and one female (none for breeding, just companionship), but was told by a breeded that she won't even allow placement of any male puppies with another male dog.

Was also told two dogs are OK, but three dogs is like having six. I would really appriciate any input. Thanks.

Not sure, but someone will come back with an answer for sure. I have a male rottie and a male boxer, they get along fine.

I am by no means an expert, so I personally can offer only the statement made by Wanda at Texas Boxer Rescue. While at a meet and greet event she told me that she will, on occassion allow two males to be out at the same time, but UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES will allow two boxer bitches to be uncrated at an event at the same time. Her experience has told her that while you can get two males to get along, it is far more difficult to get two females to get along without dominance issues or fighting.

This only answers a part of your question, but I hope it helps.

Hi, we have 2 neutered males and a spayed female. No problems. None of my dogs are very dominant. I fostered a white male that I got out of the SPCA for a month. He wasn't neutered when I brought him home and all my dogs accepted him anyway. (He was neutered 4 days later). I babysat my daughters 3 dogs at the same time (she has a female boxer, a lab male mix and a small yappy dog). My dogs generally accept any situation.

I don't think having 3 dogs is like having 6. I don't think it's any more work than having 2. Our three are 7, 4 and 2.5. The older guy is their trainer and teacher. They look to him if they're unsure about something. You can especially see this with the youngest little guy.

I think it all depends on whether the dogs are dominant or submissive and how they react to each other. Sometimes it takes a little time for them to bond.

Hope this helps!

We have two neutered males and they are great friends. Our neighbor has a female who comes to play regularly (sometimes all day) and there has never been a problem with the three of them. They get along great.

I have one male and one female, and they are a handfull to me. Of course I have never had children or brothers and sisters or anything like that so, it's just all pretty new to me. I apsolutly love all the fun we have and I wouldnt have it any other way though!:p

I'm definitely not an expert:p but my two guys get along great and Loke (female) has never had a problem with any dog. But I do recall while growing up we had a brother and sister shepherd mix. He would fight males and she females. I guess they were both the dominant ones of the land.

I have to spayed females and they get along great. I really think it is just the personality of the dogs. I hear opinions both ways. I think it is the luck of the draw. Good luck with your choice. :)

You have all been a great help. Thanks. I guess it sounds like it depends on the individual dogs. I am very appriciative of the one with four dogs. When my husband complains about three, i'll show him your post.
