I am new to the board and posted in "intro.-where are you from earlier". My family and I are considering a boxer for our next dog. I have no pets currently and our rottie died over a year ago. I am a rottie lover, but have had difficulty getting a good, reasonably priced rottie and even ahd a bad experience with new pup which we turned back to the breeder a few months age (agression). We were contemplating between a rottie vs. boxer. I think this time around, we are leaniing toward a boxer. We thought of becoming a foster parent to help out a dog and "experience ourselves" (your thoughts there)? Does anyone suggest any dogs from the adoption list currently? Alos need your experienced info. regarding the breed. I know the general things, but would like to hear more. I would love to know a recommended breeder in my area. Thanks you. Doreen

Hi, Doreen. Where are you from? If you are from the Northeast some sites to check are: http://www.secondchanceboxer.com and http://www.boxerrescue.com . What specifics would you like to know about boxers? They are generally energetic, playful dogs who are wonderful family dogs. Generally, boxers do not bark a great deal. They are known for having a lot of health issues, so if you decide to purchase make sure you find a very reputable breeder. They are one of the most cancer-prone breeds, and they are susceptible to a number of hereditary illnesses. Nonetheless, my sister's white boxer is 14 yo and still going strong. Boxers love to be with "their people" They are so people-oriented that they can sometimes have separation issues. Also, their high energy level can sometimes lead to destructive tendencies (if they are left alone). They are often difficult to train because they are stubborn, although they are VERY intelligent. Personally, I've known many boxers and never met an aggressive one. Some of the qualities I've mentioned are negative, but I would still never own any other breed - and Jake can be VERY destructive. We are still trying to figure out a way to confine him because he's managed to get out every time we've tried (even crating with reinforcements). Again, they are VERY smart and VERY stubborn! Good luck with your search - keep us posted!

Rottie vs. Boxer

First I would like to say welcome! About the boxer: I have only had one boxer for about a year, so I'm not that experienced. I will tell you that they are VERY funny dogs, and VERY smart. With my experience they are pretty stubborn about training but if you keep their attention into it they will learn ANYTHING. They will make you laugh definetly and are very loving dogs. My husband had a Rottie before we met, and he says our little Tyson has traits like the Rottie. BUT listen to other people because I'm just telling you how my boxer is. So Good Luck and I hope that you are pleased with your decision.

Completely Boxer Crazy
Warning- as soon as you get your first you will want a second! LOLOL Someone told me this when I first got Junior and sure enough, I am boxer crazy!
Hubby is (was) not a dog person and I kinda forced the issue when we got Junior. Now he cannot imagine our lives without a boxer.

They are so personable and smart. Very much people dogs though and really need a lot of people interaction. The are definately inside dogs too. It is nice that you want to foster... Good luck... hope you choose a boxer!

Super Boxer
GEt a boxer, this is my second boxer. They are hiper, loving
and, most of all the best breed of dogs. They love there family more than anything. I would suggest that if you get a boxer, get a white one. There are just as much a boxer as there coloered mates, they are so special. They can get really big I have seen them over 80 pounds. My boxer Bailey is at 65 pounds at 8 months. THey are stubborn but, training will do wonders with any dog. THey are know for being good with children, and I should know I have two of those. GOOd luck .
