Personally, I'd try raw food if the problem is colitis - especially ulcerative colitis. Very few colitis dogs can tolerate kibble, or any other highly processed foods.
The vast majority, on the other hand, seem to do extremely well on natural raw food (no grains or vegetables). There are many many threads on this board about colitis, going back for years. Most of the solutions are found in the raw feeding forum![]()
I should clarify that I do agree with Gmac. I think a non processed diet is most likely your best bet. If it were my dog I would try either home cooking or raw (I personally would try a cooked diet initially). But be prepared for a vet to strongly disagree with that suggestion. In regards to the article attached in my previous post; rescues tend to go with commercial foods because it’s more convenient & easier to tell a new adoptive family to buy a particular brand of kibble than to expect them to prepare a natural diet for their dogs.
