I, too, am afraid Austin will think we are not coming back. Thank God he will be in his own home. I can't even imagine what he felt when his first "family" left him at the shelter. He likes to sleep with shoes when we are not home, so I think I'll leave my slippers behind for him.

I worry about them feeling like that if I were to leave them at a kennel, but not if someone was coming over because Bingo just loves people and the more around the better for him. Plus I think he and I have this "bond" thing going and it's almost like he knows I will come and get him and always return. I swear it's like he just knows, he trusts me so much, it's kind of hard to explain but I'm sure you all know what I mean. When they are so dependant on us, it's just mandatory for me to do the right thing by him. And I can sympathize if he was a rescue too. I was lucky enough to have him since he was 6 1/2 weeks old, but I can totally see how I'd end up in the loony house if he was a rescue! I'm having all this trouble and he is a very well adapted dog with no history of anyone leaving him.......my god......i think I'd freak out!

Since you will only be gone for a day I would personally look into a pet sitter. We have one for when we go out just overnight. Anything longer than that and mine go see Auntie Carla at the kennel ;) This person will come into your home the number of times you specify and they usually charge per visit. They stay with the animals about an hour per visit. They also take in your mail, water your plants, rotate the turning on and off of lights, etc but this is mainly if you will be gone for a few days. If you can't find a pet sitter in your area (make sure they are licensed and bonded as well ;) ) then I would highly recommend a kennel. I did alot of research before finding the kennel that I use and they are not all the same. But you need to do the research ahead of time and find one. You never know when you might need one and the time of need isn't the best time to screen for the right kennel. Contrary to many beliefs mine have a wonderful time at the kennel. Country Club Kennels and Training has bedroom suites and indoor/outdoor kennel runs. There are couches to sleep on, plush bedding for the kennel accomodations, TV to watch and music to listen to as well. The dogs are let out to run in 2 acre paddocks atleast 6 times a day at no additional charge. It is a flat rate of $20 per day per dog. They don't charge extra for administering medication and my dogs are happy and healthy when they come home. I miss my kids when I go away but I never ever worry about their welfare! I say go to the concert and have a wonderful time :D

Just wanted to add that the owner lives on the property so she is there 24 hours too. I like that!

See we don't have anything like that here. We have places that CLAIM they are like that, but really aren't. Actually I have gone to quite a few kennels from local to driving 3 hours to one I found on the internet and I've just popped in at differing times during the day. The one thing I noticed is at none of these were there ever someone out in their yards with the dogs playing with them or taking them out for these "extra" times they say they have. The dogs were always in their kennels, doors usually down to their outside run, and no one was even paying attention to them!

However, I just found one this past week that will be a good back up if I ever have an emergency. The people were very "doggie" people. So happy to be around the animals. That the was first difference I noticed, then the fact that there were several people doing what they said they do, walking the dogs, in the yard. It's still a kennel and while the owner's daughter lives on the premises, they aren't hooked up to a fire or police alarm and like I said, it's still a kennel. But by far the best I've seen yet. It'll still take a good stomach from mommy to get me driving there with him, but at least now I feel like I have a plan if an emergency comes up. They have their own kennels inside and are taken out 3-4 times a day or more in a fenced in yard on a leash. Which is something I thing Bingo would be better in rather than let out to a run connected to his cage that he shares chain link and possibly a mean dog on the other side of. You can also incorporate doggie day care, which is in the next building, into his stay which was kinda cool And it seemed there were a million people milling around. So, I think he'd be overwhelmed and just plain exhausted after alla that. What do you guys think? They also have a vet clinic on the site. The only real down side I see is I'm not sure they have an alarm sysytem and also the last time they go out is around 5ish and not again until 7ish in the morning! That's 14 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!My God, I'D explode!!!!!!!!!!!

And about the concert weekend, my hubby asked a friend of his at work that we trust if he could stay the night and be with Bing. We have a fenced in yard so all he would have to do is let him in and out basically. I'm still worried about this too! I know you all must think I'm crazy! So, what do you think I should do and also how and what should I tell my friend without hurting her feelings? I know I can't do that but I'm thinking about having our other friend come and watch Bingo but I'm still hesitant about that even.......I'm just tempted to not go. too much going on and I thought I'd get this all figured out but I guess not!

Anyways,,,,,thanks for listening and all your great advice!!!!!!!thank you thank you thank you! I really needed some other's opinions on this who understood feeling about your dog like most do about their kids!!! wackicon
