Need advice about dog bites

I am a little confused - are you now saying that he just walked over and bit your daughter without provocation? Also, who were the "they' that told you he would have been put down had he not been up to date with his shots?

No, I'm not saying anything different. I honestly have no idea exactly what happened. All I know is she was lying on the floor and she tells me that she touched him. I was close but not right on top of her. She is 6 and has never been mean to the dogs, that's why I think it was just a pain reaction.

We are military. Things are different on military posts, rules are strict. I took her to the base hospital, they told me that he'd be taken away if he wasn't up to date on shots. That's why I said I'd rather he be put down than be taken by some asshole who doesn't know a thing about my dog. My husband has zero tolerance for a biter, he's not a dog lover and honestly I can't put my kids at risk no matter how much I love him. He will be happy and well cared for.

It's unfortunate that you and your family (which includes your dog) have been through such a traumatic experience. Unless you want to write a novel, posts are hard to get all points across. My sister was a vet tech on a military base and base rules are much different than the civilian world. I hope that you and your family can transition well through the relocation. Hang in there!

I'm so glad your daughter's okay and that you are not going to put him down.

But as an FYI, there are rescue organizations for just about every breed, including shelties. And these rescues are not run by a-holes, but by people who truly care about the well-being of the dog and will work with a bad situation. Just because they are a complete stranger to you does not mean they are in-capable of providing a happy home to a dog who has bitten a child once.. All animals deserve a chance to be rescued before being put down.

If something like this happens again, please PLEASE consider a sheltie rescue.
