Yesterday I was outside playing with Hogan. Hilda was in on the couch lounging. I looked down the street and saw two guys going door-to-door at the end of the street, so I told Hogan we have to go get Hilda because they have a job to do... I brought Hilda outside and I literally told them, "If anyone comes to our house today - don't let them in the driveway."

A few minutes later this guy comes walking up the street in front of our house. I was standing in the garage and the dogs saw him and they ran down the driveway and stood there. They didn't bark or anything, just both stood there watching him walk. The guy crossed the street, bypassed our house then came back across the street and went to my next door neighbor's house. I was so proud of them! They got their pig ears early yesterday!

Normally, I would tell people walking by not to be afraid, they won't leave the yard and they are friendly, just intimidating at first sight...

Isn't that great?! My Jacob wouldn't hurt a fly, but I like that fact that strangers don't know that! To people who are not "owned by a boxer", they must look like big mean dogs.

Skeeter does the same thing! No offence to any one if this is your religion, but we have some very persistant Jahova's witnesses (sp?) that come to our neighborhood at least once a month trying to convert people. Well after about three months, I just let Skeeter answer the door for me. See we have big peices of glass beside the door that you can see into our entry way, and Skeeter just sat there with her bottom teeth over her jowel looking tough, and they didn't even knock again, they just left! Way to go Baby! Well hopefully that worked, we will see next month.

Belle went through my MIL's glass front door after a replacement door/window salesman snuck up to the house - luckily she wasn't hurt!

Friday a salesman came to our door (doesn't happen often living so far out in the country) and before he made it to the door Titan lunged up on the door, hit the handle and ran outside. I went running out to get him and the guy is standing frozen with his hands in the air, red faced like a bank robber!! I think he thought TItan was gonna get him. Titan barked a few times and took off and went and sat at the door wanting back in. Kinda like- ok dude I chased you off now I'm done with my duty.

Great story! As for my Barlow the only thing scary about him is the way he looks. At first glance he scares the day-lights out of everybody but as soon as they see him smiling and jumping they come right on in. However Maggie, is not this way.. She looks friendly, but never acts it until we greet you with a smiling face.

My neighbor behind us met Maggie today and she was the sweetest lil thing as was Barlow, of course my neighbor isn't scared of dogs. Now my other neighbors are terrified of Barlow and they have yet to meet Maggie which should be interesting. I did tell both neighbors, they were sweet as cotton candy so if they ever got out, don't be afraid just calmly come and get us.

Loki's mom- we have the full glass french doors plus a room full of ceiling to floor windows(lots and lots of windows to wash) but Titan can watch everything outside and he does too. He barks at anyone who is a stranger if he's in the house. If he's outside he's not quite so brave, but inside he'll bark his head off standing on his back legs with his front ones on the door just daring the person to come ring the door bell. But if you step in the house the barking stops--I think he just wants a Bad Boy Image around here--ha ha. Good thing he's all bark and no bite and nobody around here is scared of him.

I truly believe that boxers have an amazing sense of "good" and "bad" people, even at first sight. My boys act like they have never seen a stranger - even in their own yard & home. I thought Charlie Manson would even be welcomed in for the party should he show up at my door! However, one afternoon Jake & I were in a public park that we had been to many times practicing what he had learned in a group obedience class that day and it began to rain. All normal people packed up and ran to escape the downpour but Jake was on a roll and we stayed. I thought we were alone in the park when suddenly he came to a dead stop and refused to move, I looked ahead and saw (barely) someone in the distance climbing up over a bank by the river but I paid him no mind as he was app. 200 yards away and no biggie to me. As he continued to walk towards us (Jake was now firmly planted and slightly growling) I realized that something was definitely wrong with this situation; this guy was obviously on the extreme weird side and the closer he got, the louder and deeper Jake's growl became. This idiot continued towards me with one arm stretched out and his other hand in a coat pocket - even with the rain it was way too hot for a coat - by now Jake had the loudest, low-pitched continuos-without-a-breath deep belly growl I have ever heard and he had "assumed the position" with his mane standing up down the back of his neck. I was almost scared of him; I'd never heard either him or Elwood growl at people,other dogs or animals, not even at each other and they do scrap heavily at times! Although I warned this person not to come any closer, he did so and Jake's growling continued deeper and teeth were showing and this weirdo was asking is he gonna bite me and I said you better ask him, but I'm pretty sure he won't stop at a bite and if I turn him loose, I won't be able to control him (Jake is a big boy - 90 lbs. of pure muscle). Looking back, "do you feel lucky, punk" or "go ahead, make my day" would have been a better response but I was pretty scared; finally the man turned and began to walk away. Jake eased up on the growl but would not move an inch until the axe-murderer was out of sight! I am still amazed that he behaved this way even before I could see this man but I now have no doubt whatsoever about the protection being there when called for. He and Elwood , although rarely, have barked at strangers i.e. the UPS man in our driveway and barked / chased cows up & down their fence line but just boxer fun. Other people have told me similar stories; one of my friends will only let his kids play where his boxer can go, too. I think boxers are the most wonderful friends and companions on the face of this earth and you can bet I will have one or both with me when traveling alone. Elwood has also exhibited this behavior although on a much smaller scale and he was only 5 months old. I think someday you will surely be amazed also!
