Natural puppy food at petsmart

I wonder why that is? Don't they want people to buy there product and improve their dogs health by giving them an alternative to the crap out there? Here in Ontario we have Petsmart which doesn't carry much good if any but we have SuperPet that carries Wellness and Natural Balance. Hmmm.

I personally like Nutro Ultra PUppy food, Maggie does very good on it. We've tried 9 different brands of food so far (several that were highly recommended but didn't work with her system.) It may be hit & miss for a while since what works great for some are bad for others. It seems Boxers are the most sensitive dogs I've ever dealt with =) Our Petsmart doesn't have a very big selection, we go to a farm feed supply store...

If that is true, it ticks me off. I wish one of these companies- Natura, OMH, Canidae, etc would step up to the plate. This is just irritating- I always thougt the problem would be Petco/ Petsmart's, but shame on OMH is this is true.JCATON said:
To the OP- I would sugest Wellness also. I've had great luck with it, but every dog is different. You may try something that works and have your dog get tired of it. I have rotated Luka on many foods (slowly, after a bag is done). There is nothing that says you have to remain loyal to any one food- and it's good to switch protien sources.
About the "puppy" formula, try to get an "All Life Stages" food. Canidae, Wellness, Innova are some.

Logan came home from the breeders at 6 weeks. I never bothered to ask her what they were eating after I saw the conditions they were in. I fed him Iams for a week cause we have always fed the cats that when they needed really good food. After finding BW and researching food though I went to petsmart and the only thing that came close to qualifying with the list of things they say boxers need was the Blue buffalo. I swithched him cold turkey, he had dinner and the next morning the diarhea he had for the entire first week was gone. Haven't had time to find the other foods yet,but do have access to feed stores.

Maybe its just me but when you switch foods on a puppy they will tend to get the runs. Ive been feeding my dixie purina one growth and development. shes doing well with it and seems to really like it.

Petsmart and good foods??
I had to go to Petco for the Wellness, my local one offers a buy 10 bags get one free. The Wellness does cost more but the ingredients are soooo much better, I would eat it if I had too, It is a healthier food than what I eat. Chicken breast is the first ingredient and then its fruits and veggies. No fillers, no bone meal, no ground up corn husk for my baby. They do get the runs when they are first switched but it will go away.
About Petsmart, I buy everything else there except my food for that I drive about 20 mins south to the Petco, but it is well worth the price and the drive for the improvement that I have seen in Natas's coat and eyes, (boogies bad before the Wellness) I do know that Petsmart sells the oldmotherhubbard treats, I think is probably a profit thing. If they can't buy it cheap they can't mark it up and still sell it at a cheap price. With the ingredients I would say that the distributor does not sell it cheap!! Order it online directly from Old Mother hubbard if you have too! Well worth it!
