Natural puppy food at petsmart

I have an 11 wk old pup that I was trying to wean off of Pedigree Puppy, onto Purina One until I could make it to the nearest Petsmart for a better food. The Purine One is NOT setting well on his tummy as he's has runny poops for the past 12 hrs. :( SO, I have him back on Pedigree puppy alone, instead of a mix and am heading to Petsmart this week. My question is this. I am trying to decide between several of their natural foods. I looked through this board about Authority Harvest Baked and didn't see anyone giving that (several using Authority puppy though). Is this new? I was thinking of using that or the Authority Large breed puppy but I can't find an ingredient's list for that one. My other choice is Nutro Natural large breed puppy food...again, no ingredients list. Any thoughts here?

Steer clear of the "large breed" foods.

Boxers are not large breed dogs, and thus should not be fed large breed dog food.

In terms of Petsmart foods, I believe the highest quality kibble that they sell there would be Royal Canin or Blue. Many people on these forums (including myself) do not buy kibble from Petsmart, as they just do not have many premium quality kibbles to choose from.

If you do a search on "premium kibbles" you will find tons of information, as well as suggestions. Good luck

Go to www.oldmotherhubbard.com and you can find a petstore near you that sells Wellness. To me this is a great food, I have fed it to Shakira for about 7 months now and she is doing just great. I have changed my 10 1/2 year old Chow over to it and she seems to no longer have arthritis, actually acts like a puppy again and her coat stays a dark, shiney, black instead of getting that ugly copper color that Chows get when they shed. I have been extremely pleased with Wellness. My daughter switched her dogs (a Rat Terrier and Chow/Lab mix) over to the Authority Baked and I was reading the ingrediants on the bag and it seems to be a pretty good food. No by-products and no corn or fillers so I was impressed with it, I don't intend to change to it from Wellness but then it is a much higher quality food then Purina One or Pedigree.

Check out blue buffalo dog food that petsmart sells. It is really good stuff.

I have been giving Shotze the authority baked kibble for two months now, and she loves it! Her coat is shiny, soft and in better shape than ever. I do add things to the kibble though like, sardines and vitamin supplements. She has solid stools and less gas than she use to have.

I know its not the BEST to feed, but its the only thing other than Canadaie (I can never spell it) we have here.

I would try to find a feed store or privately owned pet store to purchase some quality brands. Petsmart here does not carry very good food. Petco carrys Natural Balance which is a good choice.
I sent my Hubby to buy some candiae recently and apparently our local shop is not going to carry it anymore, they convinced DH to buy Nutro Natural Choice which made Magoo break out into hives!! we're back on NB temporarely, we're switching to raw next month!!

Check at some of the health food stores by your house. I know some of the ones by me stock inova. In my opinion it does not get any better.

Blue Buffalo!

If your PetsMart carries this brand, it is the way to go. Blue is one of the better foods on the market. If your puppy does well on it, this is a food you can feel GREAT about feeding for life.

Wellness

We recently switched our four year old from Nutro Max to Wellness Fish & Sweet Potato and he is doing SO MUCH BETTER! I agree with the above post that Wellness is a great food. All of his allergy problems have cleared up and the best part is that he is not throwing up anymore. I have tried to read as much as I can about Wellness and people seem to like it here too. Wellness is also baked.
