natural ear taping

i know there is a post on this... i have printed off the website and the directions.. just wanted to ask how long you leave the ears taped for at a time... and how often. Also i have heard about the massaging.. how often do you do this if i wanted to do this instead of taping... thanks!

I just read on another list today that tape is left in until if falls off (or at least that's how 1 person does it).

I suggest both taping and massaging. We taped 4-5 days/week, usually giving Lael a break for a couples days, focusing on massaging during that time.

Sometimes Lael would pull it off. :rolleyes: I changed the tape once/day (unless it came off on its own). I'd leave it off for about an hour before bed, then retape before bed.

and how long, week/month wise, do you do this for.. it kind of seems like a hassel to tape... do you think massaging will do the trick?

How long do you leave them taped all together? I understand that you replace the tape if it falls off our everyday etc. But for how long, days?

Sorry New mom and just heard about taping and want have my girl looking good. Not that she isn't naturally cute.

Tape them until they stay. (IF they stay.)

Massaging is intended to 'encourage' an ear that is already set correctly. Taping corrects the ear that isn't set correctly. (At least, that is to my knowledge.) It depends on the ear and what kind of encouragement or 'correction' it needs.

My Molly's ears aren't turned yet but I do notice one always seems to flip over somtimes both are over and she looks like she has two knots on her head. It doesn't seem to bother her and we try to flip them back and she doen't like to let us (this usually happens at play time) It this the start and should I be taping them now so they do not get bad?
Sorry for all the questions it is just nice to be able to ask someone who has done it and gone through it.

Letty: right there with you.. i actually have no clue i to do this.. i just printed off some instructions on the steps... but as far as actually doing it... no clue...plus i dont know if it is something that needs to be done for a few months or just a couple of weeks... i guess i we both will figure it out at some point... or just have flappy ears!!! which is fine with me!

We have had Chloe for almost 8 weeks now.... I massage her ears any time I have a chance; she enjoys it - and frankly, so do I. It's like petting her - or scratching...

We tried taping - day after day for a week or two. The longest the tape lasted was 30 minutes... It looked darn cute - but we couldn't keep her occupied to the point that she would forget. She couldn't get used to it.

But - her ears no longer "go funny"; and very rarely flip. They look good

I think I know what you're talking about. Does it look like this (scroll down to Type #3)? Or This?

In this article on taping natural ears, they suggest starting to tape a 9-11 weeks, and mention that most ears will begin to sit properly at around 5 months. So I suppose it depends on the age of your puppy.

I believe genetics also has quite a bit to say when it comes down to it. In our case, Lael's ears are flopping more than they sit forward. Oh well. We still love her just the same!
