Hello all, I would like to ask some opinions regarding Natural Balance's formulas. My boy Breaker has a Lamb allergy, and we are not overly satisfied with eukanuba, so we are researching some new foods. Natural Balance has been recommended, and is the most readily available of the "Human Grade" dog foods in our area. They have 2 formulas without lamb in them, Duck and potato, or Venison and brown rice. Any opinions as to which might be better for my pup (he is 12 weeks old)

Rob, Martta, and Breaker

BTW, What the heck does Dick Van Patten know about dogs anyways ;)

Voting "other"...

For what it's worth, here's what we experienced with the Duck & Potato:

Switched to this food after some research, and it is the only one this has happened with: after eating it for a week, Jazz started vomiting after nearly every meal. Changed to Sensible Choice Chicken & Rice (recommended for "sensitive stomachs" which had not been a concern prior...), and no more vomiting. So I concluded something in the Natural Balance does not agree with Jazz.

I'm interested to see if this kind of thing happened to anyone else.

I fed my white allergy boy NB Duck & Potato for a long, long time. He did much better on that than any other food I could find. After researching and finding out about yeast allergies, I have since switched him to a yeast-free home cooked diet.

I've heard that more dogs have a problem with venison than with duck.

Another good food to try is Eagle Pack. I picked up a bag of their holistic brand, the fish/salmon variety, for 2 of my other dogs. They LUV it and I really like the ingredients.

I think they're both really good foods, put I think Duck and Potato is cheaper. We feed the regular Natural Balance Ultra, but have tried both the duck and the venison. Since Chula doesn't seem to have any allergies, we just stick with the cheaper stuff. We love Natural Balance! Both the cat and the dog eat it and it's made a huge improvement in their coats and overall appearance.

I love Natural Balance. We had to stop using the it, Brindy developed a high Ph on it. We were using the Ultra Premium kibble, and it had down wonders for some of her allergies. I think she's allergic to corn. I now have her on Chick Soup, we just started it last week

Good Luck- Rachel

Sam9558: This thread is nearly two years old. If you're having problems with your dog, start a new thread. Don't append new questions to other people's threads, especially ones that are years old. You've got very little chance of getting meaningful responses to your questions if you hide them away like that.

BTW - definitely get rid of the pro-plan. It's junk food. There is some good information on how to choose a good quality dry dog food at www.boxerworld.com/feeding A food can only ever be as good as the ingredients used to make it, and that page tells you what to look for, what to avoid, and why ;)
