I was wondering if the nails can be removed. My Duke is sraping the walls and doing some damage. I tried as well to keep them as short as possible, but he still is doing quite a bit of damage.

I am tring to keep him out of certain rooms and this is not going well with him.

Is there a reason that he would need the nails, and if not why cann't they be removed. I don't want to cause any damage to him. He is six months old, and still just a pup

I don't think that you would be able to have your dogs nails removed, they are not like cat's nails that are retractable. Dogs nails are used for traction. I think that this would be very crule to have done to a dog (JMHO).

There is a product called Saft Paws that are plastic caps for the nails:

I have not used these nor do I know anyone that has, it just something that I have come accross - I am NOT endorsing them.

Your puppy is only six months old, some training and keeping the nails as short as possible is probably your best solution. Have you heard of crate training, if you do a search on this board you will come up with lots of information.

Just in case soembody is wondering, I would not do anything that is cruel to my dog. I was just exploring this to see if it could be done will out any type of damage to the dog. Yes I am currently crate training. I did look at the nail caps and this seems to be okay. Thanks for the help.
