The "ignore them" treatment is actually harder than it sounds.

My 5 month old doesn't whine, she barks at me when she wants attention. I've tried ignorning, she just keeps on barking and then jumping/pushing on me. I can't ignore her because she's pushing me. This started about a month ago.

It's frustrating. I'm chalking up as teenage years.

I wish she whined.........istead of barking. I feel like I'm going to go crazy before she grows up.

I use a "marker" word when they are doing something they aren't supposed to be doing. Like barking/whining. I say "UH OH" very loudly, turn and walk away and ignore them completely. If they come after me and proceed to bother me, paw at me, bark at me, etc., I continue to ignore them, turning around and walking away, into another room, etc.

I think using a marker word helps them to identify instantly what they did/are doing is wrong. I only use "UH OH" for things that are bad/things they need to stop- I don't tease them with the word, using it at other times.

And I totally agree, ignoring them can be very hard. But remember, even telling them to be quiet and/or speaking to them in any way is "rewarding" the behavior and to a dog, any attention is better than none.

Looks like there are a lot of us in the same boat. Carson whines over anything and everything. If I'm sitting on the couch, he's whinning and I'm not paying him any attention, he will get up on the couch and push my head back. I can not love on my older boxer because Carson will bark and try and bite at her.

We are working on breaking this bad habit by using time outs and ignoring the behavior.

Mine did that and now he barks about 3 inches from your ear and runs around in a big fit when he wants to play and I am not in the mood. If you acknowledge the dog it will just feed the fire Ignoring works best i this situation.

No, your not the only one with problems. But, the good out weighs the bad - If I had the space I'd get another one.
