Our fur baby, Sitka, had a knot removed from the top of her head this morning. After reading many posts on here, I am scared to death. The vet said that the tissue didn't appear to be "angry" but they sent it out to be certain that it wasn't anything. (Initiallly they had asked if I wanted the tissue to be sent out if it looked questionable.) Okay so now, they are telling me that they went ahead and sent it off and I am literally sick. Of course, I was so overwhelmed when I picked her up that I totally forgot to find out how long it would take for the results, and now they are closed!!! They did say they would let me know the results as soon as they got them. Meanwhile, our baby is so lethargic and has stitches in the top of her head... she looks so pitiful. Can someone please help me out with a story of happy endings and encouragement???

I'm sorry...I don't have any experience with this. But I wanted to send positive vibes that everything is okay with Sitka!! It's scary not knowing what's wrong with our babies!

I'm sorry Sitka isn't feeling well. Don't panic...they always send the tissue out for analysis. That's perfectly normal. I'm not sure why they would even ask you if you'd want it sent out--the whole point is to analyze it to make sure nothing is wrong. Keep in mind that Boxers are prone to tumors, but that doesn't mean that the tumor is cancerous. They quite frequently have benign, fatty tumors, which are nothing to be concerned about. I know how hard it is to wait for biopsy results. I thought I was going to go crazy. Mine took a week to come back. In the meantime, give Sitka lots of extra lovin'. Sounds like she could use some extra special TLC from mommy! ;)
Hang in there. This will be over soon.
Colby and Skye send Sitka lots of get well wiggles!

I am facing surgery on my baby next Wed......

Could you tell me what the "knot" looked like and did it change in size over time? In my case it is a mast cell tumor. right squarely between the ears on the top of his head.....won't know until much later what the pathologist will say. I am a complete wreck with this hanging over my head so I know exactly how you feel. Be glad though that the surgery is over and she came home to you OK. Hugs and prayers to you and Sitka....

Thanks for all of the kind wishes and thoughts.....

Sitka seems to be feeling somewhat better, although she has had a couple of accidents on the floor... now it's all about the wait, I guess......

I was a little confused myself when she, the vet, asked if I wanted the tissue sent off, considering the main purpose of removing it was to determine the pathology. Of course, the vet that asked me that wasn't the one doing the actual procedure, nor was she the one who examined Sitka in the first place. And thinking back on it now, the first thing that she said to me before she took Sitka back was that the removal would possibly leave a scar. (Okay, so let's just do away with the poor baby now, because we definitely wouldn't want a scar!) Anyway... the place on her head has been there since she was a puppy, it was actually there when we got her at 8 weeks, however it had never been mentioned during exams or vaccination visits. It has basically grown with her. It was in the middle of her head and basically looked like a mole or perhaps a callous. It wasn't attached to her head either, it was in the skin... it could be lifted. I don't know if that makes a difference, but for some reason it makes me feel somewhat better..... Of course, I feel like I have done so wrong by her for not having something done about it before now. Please remember us while we wait for the results and thanks again....
