My puppy, Brooklyn, has been diagnosed with ringworm. We have been treating it for three weeks and it seems to be getting worse. Our vet gave us an ointment to use called Animax. That wasn't really working so they told me to buy miconazole 2% and we have been using that for over a week. His skin looks very red and irritated. Just wondering if anyone has had experience with ringworm and has any good advice. By the way, he's 13 weeks old. Thanks in advance.

Em had a small growth that looked like a tumor about the size of a dime on his front paw. After a scraping at the vet he was also diagnosed with Ringworm. My vet put him on Conofite (which is1% miconazole nitrate).. It took 4 weeks of applications twice a day to finally make it begin to disappear. I do remember it looking like it was angry when we first started using the meds. Than all of a sudden, it looked like it was beginning to dry. My vet also suggested we wash it with soap and water as often as possible. I think we managed that once a day.
Good luck and be patient. It does take a long time!

Buddy had one on his front leg when he was little and just when I stopped putting the medicine on, it came back. Keep using it for a bit even after you think it's gone. Stress and sweating can bring them back. I got one on my arm from him. Be careful so you don't get it yourself.

Balboa had one on his chest when we got him at eight weeks old. The vet recommended the miconazole 2%. I applied it three times a day. It took about a month for it to finally clear up. It did get uglier looking before it started going away.

Only time I ever had a pet with ringworm, I used lamisil cream on it (from the pharmacy). Cleared it up in about 3 days. The active ingredient is Terbinafine hydrochloride - which is rather more effective than Miconazole (which is also used to treat ringworm, athlete's foot and other fungal infections in people).

Our Simone has had ringworm for quite a few weeks now. She has been treated thus far with Tresaderm and now is also on an oral Fulvicin. The oral is rather pricey but since she started it, her skin hasn't been as flaming as before.

Treating it everyday is the best thing to do. After the skin looks better, our vet says to continue treating for 2 weeks after. It's been weeks that she has been treated; and we are just hoping that the due dilligence of application and meds will get that little elbow better and growing some hair back.

I hope that Brooklyn has a mild case and it clears right up. Good luck!

Brooklyn's ringworm is starting to clear up and hair is growing back. I will continue to treat until it's completely gone. Thanks to everyone for your past experiences. I love these boards!
