To Whom It May Concern , well i should say who can help

I have pup and she is almost a yr old , the thing she has started to do is eat her own Poo, we feed her well and never had a boxer that does this .
We do have a jack Ressell and he eat his own poo , the same they both get plenty to eat.
My Boxer has only started to do this , can to tell me why and how to stop her.

i guess your boxer is following your jack russels example! you can buy a tasteless harmless additive that makes it taste real gross when they eat it. bitches eat the pups poop in the 'nest' as far as i know to keep it clean, the pups learn to do it and usually grow out of it once they are being toilet trained, but i guess some just dont.

Poo-eating is not uncommon in dogs (gross yes, but uncommon, unfortunately no). Cat poo is generally the favourite, but their own and other dogs' too, in some cases.

One theory about why they do it is that they are attracted by the protein expelled in waste. That theory does have a certain amount of credence, given dogs' general liking for cat poo (which is high in protein) and their disdain of raw-fed dog poo (which is not).

Alas, there does not seem to be a single solution that works in all cases. For some dogs, changing their food to an super premium quality kibble does the trick. The ingredients in those foods tend to be of higher quality, and are more easily digested. The result is less protein expelled in the poo (because the dog was able to digest it first time around), and hence less 'attractive' poo. That works in many cases - not all, but enough to be definitely worth a try. Unless your dog is already eating a super-premium food, of course.

You could also try the 'food additives' sold in pet shops that is supposed to make the poo unappealing. Again, it doesn't work in all cases, but still often enough that it is worth trying.

One further thought is that you could try feeding a raw diet to both your dogs. I have yet to hear of a raw-fed dog that eats it's own poo.

Finally, you could pick up and dispose of all the poo before anyone gets the chance to eat it. How feasible that is really depends on you and how much time your dogs spend outdoors, and whether it's always supervised outdoor time.

No help here. My 11-1/2 year old occasionally does it. Totally gross but nothing has worked to make her completely stop. And she has an awesome diet. She is just a dog :D
