So I have a 50yr old pine tree in my backyard, and Duke has decided to dig at the roots, and pull at them. I'm not sure what to do. I have another dog so he never goes outside by himself, I am out there with him most of the time, and he is never out their for too long. But he just goes straight to digging. I dont know what to do.

Ooops.........

Would it be possible to put a fence around it, like you see in public parks?
(here in the uk anyway)

I know this sounds gross but...Oscar and Sydney were doing the same to a small tree in our backyard, and we put their poop all around the tree and in their digging holes. They haven't done it since :)

Home Depot has a product called "Stay Away" with a Boxer on the packaging. (wonder why ;)) I've never tried it but it goes in the dirt and is suposed to keep dogs out of plants. :)

Let me know if that works! Blaze has eaten my Azeleas, Hydraingias, my rose bushes, AND the white picket fences AROUND them. Not to mention the lawn mower, the broom, dustpan, my daughters pom poms, etc. :D

If he is not a poop eater, putting his poop in the hole will work. Mine will dig everywhere and anywhere. I just pick up their poop for the day and place it in the hole. They never come back to that place. They just go find another hole to dig.

It will also works on plants. I had some flowers that they were destroying. I dumped some poop around the ones that were left and they have not messed with them since.

I think I'm gonna try the poop thing, but one question. Do you not fill the hole? you just leave it put poop in it, and then what? i kinda want to fill the hole's back up, cus they are into my tree's roots.

I have a baby willow tree in my garden that my 3 boxers have been digging at, they also used to dig around the roots of my now very few rose bushes - not any more, I collected up some of their poop and dug it in under the soil and now they steer well clear! :)

Welp...I guess I'll be digging holes and burrying poop. Do you cover it back up?
Hmm...I wonder if I can splatter some on my house to to get him to stop chewing the vinyl siding! :D KIDDING! Well...about the poop on the house part...NOT the siding part.

On the "poop in the hole" method -- the roots on our tree were almost exposed, so first we packed in some fill dirt mixed with some older poop and then put a few fresh "piles" right on top. It has been a few weeks and those piles on top are still sitting there undisturbed...so far.

I wonder if any of us thought we would be discussing 101 uses for dog poop prior to having our boxer babies :)
