Re: A rough few days with Theo

Theo has been having a lot of his episodes. He goes into vtac, all four limps go stiff and he keels over. The worst part is now he nows when they are coming so he gets up and runs straight towards the nearest person the keels over like he is trying to get our help. Now when the vtac is over, his heart stops for a few seconds and he turns white with a shade of blue. You can feel his heart slowly come back. The dr thinks it might be a bad reaction to his meds, so we are taking him of his heart meds for a few days to ssee if they stop. He hasnt had the meds since yesterday morning and hasnt had an episode since yesterday afternoon. hopefully it was just his meds because he cant live that way. he keeled over on the deck yesterday and fell down the four stairs. now he is not allowed near stair until its under control. he is still shaken up. he wants to be by my side 24/7 which i dont mind, luckly i can bing him to work. the next few days will be a test. If he stops with the episodes we will try a new medication otherwise i cant let him live this way, its not far to him, if you could only see the fear in his eyes right before he keels over, its like a knife in your heart. Please pray for my baby, i am not ready to let him go.

You all are in my prayers. I hope that it is just a bad reaction and you can get everything under control real soon. You sound like you have a grasp on things and know what is right for him, your heart will let you know what to do.

So its been over 24 hours off the meds and no syncopy and his ekg was normal. So far it is looking like it was the meds, he is still pretty exercise intolerant and isnt himself yet but they said it can take a little while for the meds to get completly out of his system. I am going to wait a few more days and if he gets back to normal i will try the next medication. Wish us luck!! I am just glad he stopped fainting for now, its so scary to have your dog die repeativly and come back. I work at a vets office so i have seen my share of deceased animals and its scary to see him look just like one, with the blue gums and no heart beat. i am lucky he has come back to me each time. I had gotten him with the intention of titleing him in breed, obidience and agility, He never got into the ring for any of them but he is still the best companion i could ask for!!!!! Having him for the past four years has been wonderful I hope to celebrate his 5th birthday next april, he will get abig cake!

Theo is almost back to his normal self. I dont think he will ever be 100% I think the episodes did cause a little neurlogical damage but he is still doing really well. Hopefully we will start the new meds next week.

well so far so good. Theo hasnt fainted in over a week. He still is having mild episode of vtac, i can tell because he gets really scared and panics, but its only happend once or twice. I am going to call his cardiologist soon and get him strated on the new meds. Wish us luck!!

I am crying as I read you thread, and thinking of my baby girl Layla. Layla had heart troubles also, however heres were too deep into her heart to fix. Layla passed away 04/08/06 which was 2 months and 1 day away from her 3rd birthday. I will be praying for you and your baby. It's been more then a year now and it still hurts to think that Layla's Birthday is June 7 and she would have been 4 years old. Live every day to fullest and make the most of what you have. When Layla had her first episode we took her to the cardiologist less then a week later and he told us with the meds we could have her for maybe another year and within less then 3 weeks she was gone. So enjoy every moment with your baby, and know that the love that he gives you is unconditional.

Your post brought tears to my eyes-I also lost my baby girl at three years and three months-sudden death-asymptomatic. She was gone in a second. Her fourth birthday was a very sad day for us so I know that feeling of loss you are talking about. Here's wishing Theo a full life and his Mom years of slobbery kisses and boxer wiggles

so Theo is doing really well, he is eating and playing. I think he fried a few brain cells cause his iq dropped even lower but other then that he is well. But now i have a decision to make. A. Leave him along (let him live his life w/ no heart meds) B. Try a new medication C. Get a 2nd opinion

Help!!! Does any one have experience w/ treating this condition? he has a form of cardiomyopathy, vtac and pvc. The problem is alot of the typical drugs interact with his branchidialator or his benadryl (both used for upper airway disease) She I wants to move him from one betablocker to another, he had such a bad reaction to the first one though (sota)

happy to report Theo is doing well. I decided against heart meds for the mon=ment. all his episode have been triggered by meds so he is olnly getting his meds for his upperairways disease, benadryl and some supplements for his knees and skin. He is more lively then ever. He has given mutliple bruises from running into to me with his head going full speed. He is very happy, the herat condition along with the knees and upperairway will eventually take my theo prematurely but he is not going down with out a fight. i think he knows he needs to live day by day because he has become a whole new dog. he acts like a puppy!!!
