My poor Sampson

I had posted last week about the male boxer I took in from a lady I work with that was going to take him to the pound. The poor boy has lived outside his whole 5 years, and is a very sick boy. He was urinating blood, and was treated with and antibiotic without success. Today, he was tested for heartworms and tested positive :( He had a mass on his chest removed for biopsy today as well. There is a possibility that he has bladder cancer as well, though we aren't getting the sonogram done until after the report comes in on the mass removed today. We can't even worry about starting heartworm treatment until we get the urine issues figured out. I really hope it is just an enlarged prostate, causing the problems, but we are unable to find out by removing it when he gets neutered d/t he can't be anesthesized with heartworms.

My coworker will be hearing a few not so nice words from me tomorrow

Surely she had some idea he was peeing blood? This dog is the sweetest boy, this morning he managed to get his 65lb self ON MY LAP while I was at the computer! He is moping around since we came home. He did so well getting his prostate checked, and then having the mass removed with just a local anesthetic since he can't be put under. He didn't even flinch when they did the heartworm test. I feel so bad for him. The vet asked me if I was actually committed to keeping him since I just took him in, and he is going to cost so much to treat, if he doesn't have bladder CA, that is. I guess the bladder cancer is a no win situation. She did say his prostate is enlarged, and is hoping that is the cause of the blood. How can I say no? He looks at me with those big brown eyes, and gives me slobbery boxer kisses! He deserves a second chance, you know?

What an admirable thing to do. You are doing a wonderful thing taking in a sick dog and treating him regardless of the severity of the illness. I hope it's something minor and Sampson feels better soon. Good luck!

You are an angel. Taking in a sick dog is a very big decision. You are to be commended. This lady should never have a dog. Some many people are so irresponsible. There are lots of people out there who would love to own a boxer if she didn't want him. Surely, she could have sold him before he got sick. I will pray that Sampson does fine and you will have the courage to face whatever lies ahead for him. God bless.
