I have three cats, one of which, thankfully, is willing to play with Macey (she LOVES him). When he's had enough, he just jumps up to where she can't get to him -we won't let her on the furniture. We taught Macey the "leave it" command (using the techniques outlined on BW) and we use that command when she looks like she wants to go after one of the other two. She got "leave it" in about two days.
I also make sure the cats claws are clipped, so if there is claw bearing smacks to the face, she should be ok. I don't anticipate that though, as we try to keep the skittish cats feeling safe around Macey (use a can of pennies if she goes after them, especially on the furniture, etc).
That being said, at this point Macey isn't allowed in the house alone yet (she's almost 4 months). If all the animals are allowed free access to the house, I would make sure that the cat has someplace to go in each room where Laila can't get to her.
I would think that if your cat has enough, she would get out of there. I would just make sure that if Laila has her pinned (so the cat can't get away) that you intervene; that will prevent the cat from acting in desperation and/or defensively.
Good luck!!
