well bubba is 8 months mid 50 lbs. early last week i started to notice a spot on his head losing hair. its the size of a nickel now and quite a few spots are showing up now. around his muzzle, cheeks and its thinning on his belly. he doesnt seem to scratch to much and otherwise acts normal. his 3 week younger bigger brother( mojoe- a doberman almost 8 months 80 lbs) has had two spots his head and between his shoulders. the vet said it was localize dem. mange and to see if it will clear itself up. at first on the boxer i thought it was just battle wounds from all the horseplay they do but other than some obvious scratches theres no noticeable skin irritation or redness. i hope its something simple. is mange contagious? he has an appointment for the vet on wednesday. they are both on canidae and get nupro supplements in their food. for now i stopped giving bubba the supplement. any ideas or thoughts?

I would continue to give the supplements it helps with the immune system, which is what causes mange in the first place. I don't think mange is contaigous but I could be wrong. My Bella had it and Bubba never got it..yep my boy is Bubba also...how cool is that??

Brody had genetic d-mange. We started giving him a better diet. vegies, egg, and protien. Just stay on the mange. It can get out of contral. We had to dipping him i think 5 times. But it was all wroth it. We also have to still give him oral meds.

My lexi has mange, demodex is not contagious. I wish you all the best in getting rid of your dog's mange. Have you tried Neem? It comes in oil (topical use ) or pill. I give lexi both. It comes from a tree that grows in India, and it is supposed to work similar to goldenseal. It costs about 12.00 a bottle at a health foods store.-amy

thanks for the info, a stopped the supplements for now incase it could be allergies. they have been on canidae for a while and the supplement for less than a month so i fiqured lets cut back on any recent exposures. i also have removed his collar for now. for anyone who has had two pups together.....did they always play? i meen really play, these two can get pretty out of hand. the dobe just outsizes the boxer by so much and the boxer alway instigates! the boxer never bites hard at all but the dobe just slams him around. its not like its a blood bath but the boxer boxes the dobe wrestles lol. i hope the boxer's not allergic the the dobes saliva. well for now ill just have to wait till the vet's appointment. thanks all.
