Boxer Insane
Both of my first two boxers were May pups, so I always think about them at this time of year. Two days ago I got an email with from PetSmart with a birthday coupon for a free threat for Thor. (His birthday is the 24th.) As if that wasn't enough to tug at my heart, yesterday was Star's birthday and my husband went on bragging about her to some company we had. (She was an awesome pup and well worth bragging about.) I miss them both so much.
Star was not only my first, but she was my Baby Girl. I was only married a year at that time we got her and my husband's job meant we had to be apart sometimes for a month or more. She kept me company. She was very sickly at first with coccidia and parvo at the same time. It was a miracle she lived, but we had a great vet. My husband got a new job and still travel for a day or two every week or so. As she grew she became my protector. She was also my travel companion. At 3 months old she and I drove from El Paso, TX to Daytona Beach, FL. By that time she had already been on a camping trip, and to Carlsbad Caverns. She wasn't allowed in the caverns but the park service did have a kennel service, and she was allowed to sit outside in the evening when the bats came out. We even stopped in San Antonio, and New Orleans on the way. She went so many places with me. We lived in 5 different states and she made friends everywhere we went. With her being so sick so young her immune system was shot and she dealt with some serious allergies and I did all I could to make her comfortable, and didn't think twice about doing it. I look back now and wonder how I found the time for all it took. (monthly carpet cleaning, medicated baths, medications, washing beds, food trials) But she was so worth it all!
Many of you on here remember Thor. I can't believe he has been gone nearly 18 months. He was my mama's boy and thought cuddling was the best thing ever. When he had gained so much extra weight from the hypothyroidism, and went as high as 107 lbs. he still just wanted to climb into my lap. Thankfully with medication, diet and exercise we got him back down to a svelte 85 lbs. It got to where I would wake up at night if he wasn't touching me. He loved giving and getting hugs, especially with children. I have had more pictures sent to me of friend's and relative's kids hugging and kissing Thor.
Happy Birthday Baby Girl and Bubby! Your mama, dad and your li'l sis The Brat miss you so much!
