I searched the posts and didn't see any posts about this topic . . .

After I play with my boxer I have found that my skin will get itchy red bumps that last an hour or so. This is usually when she hasn't had a bath for awhile. My BF said he noticed the same thing with his last two boxers.

Has anyone else noticed this or am I crazy?

I havent noticed this with my dog. Are you sure that your not allergic to them or something that they are getting into?

I thought that might be the case until my BF said he had the same problem with his last two boxers . . .

It is so strange. It isn't all the time, but usually when she hasn't had a bath in while--and usually when I wrestle with her and my arms, neck or legs come into contact with her.

Weird!!!

You're not crazy

That would happen to me almost ALL the time with blizzy whether or not she'd had recently had a bath. I went to the dermatologist about it because I would get the red itchy bumps (little tiny bumps) that I would scratch sometimes till they bled! It was the actual hair of Blizzy that did it. I wasnt allergic to her per se but when the fur/hair would poke me it would leave a red bump..and with petting her or wrestling with her it was inedivadable that a hair or two (or fifty  ) would poke my skin. I learned to have clothing that covered my arms, legs, stomach etc if I was going to rough house with her. Since the act of petting her didn;t bother my hands all was ok.

This is exactly why my girl was never allowed on my bed or the furniture.

our old roommate had the same problem with Norton's hair when he would play with him...I don't have an issue with my boxers, but some other shorthaired dogs have given me the same reaction you are talking about...I think it is not necessarily an allergy, per se, (as I have worked as a vet tech for years with no problems) but something about those prickly short hairs and maybe the dander specific to some dogs? I have not noticed one breed more than another to bother me, although now that I have said that, I cannot tough a shar pei without some sort of "covering" between us or I do get extra prickly!

Totally

DH and I both had issues with Dillon but only time to time. Since it was happening with both of us and not every day, we traced when it was happening and found out that it is something he does when he goes over to my parents house during the day. Something in their yard does not agree with our skin. It's not like they have poison ivy or something like that it's just normal bushes and grass, but it definitley is coming from their house not him because if we give him a bath, he's fine.

Good luck in finding the cause.

Okay--good! I thought I was going crazy. I have found what Donna says is probably the best thing for me--I just make sure my arms and legs are covered when I play with her. I was hoping there was another solution--but I think I can live with it! My fur baby is worth a little itching!!

BTW, I noticed that in the summer time it was the worst with the "rash" of course because who wants to cover up in the dead of summer! I think it was a combo of sweating and the fur poking me. But honestly even when I wasn't "covered" the rash wasn't always really bad and it did go away in a bit..a day at the longest.

This happens to me and dh also. We have each always lived with dogs so when we got Rock and this started happening it was quite strange. We thought it was coming from where his paws would touch us on the forearms. Maybe it was something he had on his feet? Now that he has begun showering almost daily (don't ask, LOL!) I don't think it is happening as often. But, you are definately not crazy!

ive had this problem for years, also same reaction to our great dane, dr told me it was the skin being so short and the texture irratated me. ive learned to live with it for years. when we sleep i just put a light blanket between chloe and me so my face or arms dont touch her. but of course you cant always protect yourself and thats fine its worth the little bumps and itching.
