I am battling a husband who says he is a "liability" and with my heart who says he's "my baby". No one here has said anything I haven't thought it just seems harsh when you're reading it knowing that this isn't what you want to do. I appreciate your opinion as well as everyone else who has posted even if it's not what I want to hear.
Well in reality, there is no point in going "you should have done this or that"
It is way past that time. I know what it is to lose trust in a dog, My second foster we euthanized was like that. My first foster was aggressive with everyone but me, I never worried or lost trust in him But he was dangerous. But the second one was a real sweetheart right up until he attacked and hurt my 4mo's old puppy. He wouldnt let up or let go. At that point I lost complete trust in him and from then on was worried about everything I did, afraid I would "push" that button. It was very stressful time and I dont think there was anything that could have been done to convince me he was safe. There was no way he would gain my trust back. So in that respect, I do understand. Once it gets to that point, there really isnt too many options left. My trainer/behaviorist and I were talking about this last weekend. She aggreed, she said most of the time when she gets called in the people have lost the trust and she said that this is when she knows there is very little hope left.
In my opinion though, you need to make sure what the rescue is going to do with him. If they plan on euthanizing him for aggression, it would be better for him if you took that responsibility. It is infinitly the most difficult thing in the world to do, but he deserves to have you there. But again, this is just my opinion, do what you feel is best for you and your family. Good Luck and I will keep you in my prayers
