My Female Boxer Leaves Kibble on The Floor

My 2yr old female boxer takes kibble from her bowl and drops some in the middle of the living room floor when she starts to eat...At first we thought she was doing this to lead the male boxer away so she wouldn't have to eat next to him (there bowls are next to each other) or maybe she has become so nosey that she wants to hear and see everything that we are doing..I cannot figure out why she is doing this she is such a silly girl!

Some dogs really don't like to eat next to other dogs. They either don't want the other dog in their space, or they respectfully remove themselves from the other dog's space. I've also found that alot of dogs don't like to eat with their head facing the wall. They'd much rather face the other direction.

What would your female do if you placed her bowl in the middle of the living room? Would she still take her kibble out of the bowl before eating it? If not, then just experiment a bit and find an spot where she eats from the bowl and feed her there.

Some dogs will spill the kibble around or remove the kibble regardless of where they are fed. Sometimes this can be remedied by feeding them on a cookie sheet or a plastic tray. If the kibble is already spread around, there is no reason for them to spread it further.

I absolutely agree - feed them in different areas. Dogs should never be fed side-by-side or close to each other. I feed all four of my dogs in seperate rooms. If they are within eye sight of another dog, they either eat too fast, or eat anxiously, or not eat at all, which in turn causes stomach upsets.

You will find by seperating them, they both will have a much more enjoyable meal. How would you like to eat with another head beside yours? Awkward! LOL

My Sandy always dropped food on the floor, eventually, she would eat it, but she took her time... I guess she just liked to eat off the floor.
She was fed on the opposite side of the room from Napoleon, so being fed beside him was not the issue. I think it was just her way.

They are all special in their own little ways... gotta love em!

I agree completely about feeding the dogs separately. My yapper mini poodle bolts his food (yes, a poodle!) if fed too close to my crazy Brodie. I feed them at opposite ends of the kitchen with their backs to each other. Sometimes, if the poodle is still nervous, I put him on the other side of a baby gate to eat.

My border collie grabbed a mouthful of food, brought in into the living room, dropped it on the floor, and laid down and ate it. She repeated this until the food was gone. I always told everyone it was no different than us not wanting to eat at the table and instead eating on the couch. She was an only dog.

Harley and Titan are also "special" eaters. I have 2 bowls. Each filled with food. They almost never eat at the same time because they insist on eating out of the same bowl! So one will eat first, then the other will drag that empty bowl around until I dump the other bowl of food into it! They are crazy! Occasioanlly they eat at the same time. The bowls are about a foot apart. And if they do eat at the same time, they still take forever to eat.

And if I go sit down while they eat, about halfway through they will come stick their stinky dog food breath in my face as if to show me, Hey mom, I'm eating! If dog number one was not done at this halftime break and dog number two starts eating, dog number one just calmly pushes the other one out of the way as if to say, Hey, I'm not done yet buddy.

Well laila only does it sometime, and I really think it is because she is very nosey..she does it mainly when me and my husband are talking, she stops and stares at us as we are talking... I dont think she has a problem eating next to Bo because she is usually okay eating next to him. So, i think it is either one of the two things..she is nosey or she gets in one of her moods where she doesnt feel like eating next to him at the moment...

I would still suggest feeding them seperately in different areas, especially since she is coming into adulthood. It only takes one spat to change the dynamics between them and for you to regret not doing it from the get-go.

I agree with feeding them seperately...

However Dante, an only dog, has a similar tendency. He always brings his first few bites of kibble to "his" area. On his pillow... I guess he realizes it takes too long and then he eats the rest of his meal at his bowl. He's done this at every meal for as long as I can remember.
