Hi I have a 17 week old female pup. She is a great dog and has gained control of her bladder( she can hold it for periods of time )
The thing is that the last few times we have crated her we would come back and she would be wet on the bottom of her feet and wherever she was laying, stomach and chin. I don't think its urine because it does not smell and there is no sign of it in the crate. Also, I take her out ond make sure that she goes to the bathroom and this has happened while only being gone for 45 min. This only happens when we don't leave a pillow or blanket for her to cuddle with, it happens when she is left on the plastic liner. It seems like perspiration because when she gets out of the crate there is nothing left behind except heat marks on the plastic that evaporate in just minutes. But she is soaking wet. Also, after the first time it happened I started to elevate her crate an inch on one side to make sure that is was not urine by giving it a chance to puddle in one end. Is this normal and is there anything that I can do? Is this harmful or painful to my girl? Any suggestions? Thanks

Completely Boxer Crazy
If she is soak and wet she is not sweating, she is drooling. Excessive drooling is usually a sign of separation anxiety, although if it's only happened a few times, we are not talking about a huge case of it here. Don't panic, with a few simple steps I am sure you can stop this from happening. Since you say this only happens when you don't leave her a blanket, make sure you put one in there for her. Don't make a big fuss when you put her in the crate, give her a treat, give her a kong to occupy her time. Also do not make a big fuss when you come home and get her out of her crate. Wait at least 5 min, and until she has calmed down before greeting her gently.

To read more, do a search on Separation anxiety and drooling I'm sure you'll find some information. I also recommend reading The Dog Listener. Good luck!

P.S. This happened twice with Gazou in the first week we had him. It never happened again.
