Everyday we put my 15 wk old Skye in his crate. Today when I got home, he was happily out playing with my older dog Boo. When I checked the crate, only the top latch of the crate had come undone. All I can figure is that he pushed the top of the door open and squeezed out.smashicon

No one else has a key to my house so that's ruled out. This is the second crate latch he has figured out. He did this on my older dog's crate too. It has a slightly different latch. Evidently he mouths the crate until it slides open then squeezes out. This puppy is WAY TOO SMART.

My first Boxer Loki angelicon would do the same thing at that age. We even put leash clips all around the top and front door and he would still get out. That was the end of crates. When ever he escaped he would trash the house . When we stopped crating him he stopped destroying things. Brinkley has no crate and never trashes anything. What luck! no crate no damage.

I have the same problem with Eva! We call her "dogini". At this moment, her crate is clamped together everywhere! ZsaZsa and Eva were kept in separate crates. Eva started flipping her cage. We'd come home and the crate would be upside down in the middle of the room. She started getting out a lot. Not only would she bust out of the cage, she opened a small closet and managed to get herself stuck in there. I was concerned about her safety. We now crate the two of them together and have clamps all around the crate. She could also jump over just about anything from day one! They are so amazing!

Riggs figured out how to get out but it took us three times to realized it. At first we figured we must not be latching it properly because there was no way a less then 5 month old puppy could get out. Ever since we started to use the "extra" lock he can't get out. He can undo the latch but the door can't swing open now. We also call him Houdini!!

They sure are smart!!

We decided to baby gate Tugga in the kitchen so he would have room to run around during the day. It only took him 3 days to figure out how to climb it. We couldn't believe it. We knew he was too small to jump it and then we saw him put his little paws in the grid of the gate and climb right over. so then we put up a tall gate and then a small gate on top of that. But a day or so after that he figured out how to ram one corner till it poked out a bit and then climb out. Now we have finally figured out how to keep him locked up (for now). We put up the tall gate and put a chair in front of it then we put up the small gate on top with a chair in front of it. I got a picture of it somewhere and as soon as I find it I'll put it in my gallery. It's so funny to see. It looks like we're a high security prison. lol

My brother's did this too! They couldn't figure out how she was getting out when she was such a little thing, so they set up a video camera and taped her. It was the funniest thing to watch. Unfortunately she then grew up to be a fence climber - she'd pull herself up and over a 6 foot privacy fence. She just does not want to be contained.

Baby gates worked for a little while with Kona. But like everything else that we've used to try to keep her in or out. She outsmarted the system.smashicon

When I was younger my parents put a door up between the kitchen and the living room. The door stopped aproximately a foot from the ceiling and Their male boxer would climb the screen door and then sneak through the top. They finally had to take it down for fear that dog would get caught and injured somehow.
