Completely Boxer Crazy
We live in Pgh. PA. We are flying to Seattle to get a European puppy from a very reputable breeder. My coworkers think I am nuts. They took a vote today. It was unanimous. I am insane. I cannot get them to understand why we would travel that far and spend that amount of money for "a puppy". I tried to explain health testing and reputable breeding. I tried to explain the difference in conformation and drive from an American Boxef. I tried to explain how beautiful Seattle is and that it could be considered a short vacation too. They just do not get it. They don't have too. I guess that is what separates a Boxer lover from a dog lover

Ahhh...don't worry about what they think....I COMPLETELY understand, and I think many other boxer lovers would as well. :) Safe travels, congrats, and enjoy your new puppy!! :)

Funny

More than anything I think it is funny. They also think that we are wealthy because we are flying to Seattle and paying big bucks for a puppy. What they do not get is that you get what you pay for most of the time. As we all know there are no guarantees with Boxers but you research the best you can and hope that you made the right decision. They don't get that a local rescue could be more costly than this pup. And I have nothing against rescue. So far all of our dogs except one has been a rescue. This upcoming pup is our dream dog.

As many of you know we have enough money into our last Boxer rescue to buy a new small car. So we get it.

We never had skin kids so we do not have that expense. Our dogs are spoiled rotten. They have more toys than a lot of children and beds that probably cost more than some child beds. We spend almost as much on food for them per month as we do at the grocery store for us. And unfortunately I talk about what our dogs have and people ask about the expense and I am stupid enough to share the truth.
A coworker was with me at a conference and wanted to go look at shoes at Orvis and I walked out with a three hundred dollar dog bed. She did not buy shoes. She went back to work and told everyone what I paid for a dog bed. These are reasons why they think I am crazy. I do not care. They also think that we were nuts to pay for Sable's two jaw and two knee surgeries. They said they do not have that kind of money they would have put her down. Same with my six year old when he was diagnosed with cancer and we paid thousands of dollars to try to have it removed and ultimately he had to be put down on the table. They would have just put him to sleep when he was diagnosed.

We basically do not understand people. If we had kids we would teach them that pets are precious and bring so much to our lives. That pets are not something that you throw away and replace. It is a life that add so much to yours.

Call me crazy. I do not care. Commit me to a mental institution just make sure they have pet therapy. LOL

Personally I feel sorry for your coworkers. If they do not understand, then they have never known the truest form of unconditional love. That is just plain sad.

I'll bet that at least some of your coworkers spend a lot of money on designer clothing and shoes, fishing or hunting cabins, cars that are way beyond what is needed for transportation, a boat and 'housing' for the boat, and so on. Let them think we are the crazy ones, but there is still no therapy like a puppy licking your face. lovicon

That is so true. I can't wait for puppy smell and puppy kisses. To watch my older dogs train the new puppy. For the first time the puppy sees his reflection and barks at it. My dogs complete me. I cherish my time with them. They are my therapy for mental wellness.

Many of them have dogs but I don't think they are a part of the family the way ours are. They are just pets.
