Cooper is my first Boxer and since I do not have skin kids, he has truly been my kid. He is 7.5 yrs old and has been the BEST boy in the world for me.

It started back in Sept when he began to act funny and tripping on his front right foot and acted a lil stove up in the hips. I took him to the vet and he said "ACL go to an orthopedic surgeon" which we did and he also took x-rays of his spine and found severe spondolosis and he recommended a neuro surgeon before worrying about his leg. We went to the Neuro who said it was probably a herniated disc so we did a mylegram and spinal tap that came out clean but did show severe spondolosis which he said does not cause that much damage. Cooper seemed a lot better when on a very low dose of prednisone so it was ok for awhile... then before x-mas he seemed to go down hill and back to the neuro we went where he said a cat scan was in order....in the mean time I also took him to another neuro for a second opinion before dropping another $900 on a ct scan and the second opinion was not good either, through his exam he confirms that he does have a brain tumor on the left side of his brain in the frontal lobe and it is the kind that there is nothing I can do but keep him on prednisone for the swelling.
The past month for me has been a living hell....I have never had to go through this and I feel so helpless.... He is doing well he still likes his food, he walks with a slight gimp, but has lost his spunk. He still knows who I am and I still gets nub wiggles from him (not like I use to but it is a sign to me that he still knows who I am) there is also nub wiggles for food.
I cant imagine life with out him and I have done nothing but cry my eyes out.
I think his time is drawing near but I am not sure.....the vets have told me that he will tell me when but I just dont know, I am SO NOT ready to say good-bye and it has just been really hard for me.
He has been the love of my life and my rock.
It has been so painful that I can just now talk about it, how can this get any better???

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I so know and understand what you are going through, as Poppy our first Boxer had exactly the same thing, although she was 12 when she was diagnosed, but we were able to keep her going for over a year after the initial diagnosis....(the first vet we consulted, said we should put her to sleep straight away) She was prescribed prednisone, and pheno, to stabalise her siezures, and also we had her on some shark cartiliage meds, to help with joint stiffness she was expieriencing at the same time.
We had a fantastic vet who supported and advised us really well troughout that sad time., and most days with her were good, and she still had a good quality of life. I can't lie to you and say it will all be easy, because it won't, things do get worse, because of the nature of that horrible disease. All I can say is make the most of the time you have with your beloved Cooper, and know that you are doing all you can to help him, and that you are filling his days with love. I understand so well the pain and grief that you are going through, you just want the best for your baby, and to take away the pain. I know for me It was one of the blackest times of my life, I have never felt so helpless and unhappy as I was at that point.
You will know, as I did with Poppy, when the time comes to help him for one last time, he will let you know when he can't fight anymore..........I pray that it will not be for a long time yet. I used to look at Poppy and say to my husband, do you think Poppy will die? and he would say 'not today', and thats how we lived,... one day at a time, taking each new day with her as a precious gift, some days I would take the phone off the hook, shut the door, and just spend all my day laying curled up with her. I have said before that I wished then that I had the support of everyone here on this board, who truly know and understand how hard this is for you.....It would have helped so much to have others in the same position to talk to......just know that we are all here for you and Cooper, and we will help and support you throughout this.
Sending you much love and healing vibes and prayers at this hard time. Millie is sending Cooper lots of slobby kisses too xx

Several of us here know exactly what you are going through as our kids are also battling the cancer /tumors beast. It is heart breaking and leaves us feeling totally out of control.....all I can offer is live one day at a time. Your baby will let you know when the fight is over. You have a huge source of support here. Keep us updated...there are also many support groups available on web forums dealing specifically with brain tumors and cancers. Hugs and positive energies coming your way.

You are at the right place I found out Jan 10 that Rocky soon to be 8 has osteosarcoma cancer in his leg. I have done nothing but cry since. But the love and support you will find in here sure helps...I felt as though my heart was being ripped out and still have some of those days but not as many. Rocky is such a sweet, gentle adorable boxer...like all of the others but as all my boxer post friends say...spoil them, love them, give them their favorite food and try to stay strong easier said than done. Our prayers and support...Rocky & Mom
