my boy's are fighting

We've got two boy's, a 9 month old Boxer and a 3 year old Beagle. Both have been insepretable since we got the boxer. We have never had any aggression problems with either one, but the Beagle being older has always been the dominant dog. Well, last night the Boxer snapped and attacked the beagle. It took me and my wife both to pull them apart. The fight looked pretty bad but the Boxer never drew blood, the Beagle dosn't have a scratch on him. After we got them seperated, we put them in different rooms for about a half hour. When we let them out they acted like nothing had happened. When we woke up this morning they were both sleeping next to each other.
Is this just the boxer trying to become the dominant dog?

Hard to say. Could have been triggered by most anything, a toy, a bone, whatever. It could also be a show of dominance. One would really need a behaviorist to come and evaluate the situation thoroughly.

In the interim, try reading as much as you can about aggression and the like. We have a marvelous book forum which can be of assistance. Do a search here at BW for agression and see what comes up which may help give you some insight.

Our babes have taken it too far as well (although I don't think quite as extensive as your dogs). Titus, our youngest, is possessive over toys. When Lexi comes in to take something he's really into, he' ll get upset and the hairs on his back will stand up and his bark sounds angry. Maybe if it happens again, see if there's a toy etc. involved or if the attack just came out of the blue. I'm glad your babes weren't hurt. I know it's disturbing to see your babes fighting and not getting along, even if the arguments are far and few in between.
