I hate to sound anti-people but seems to me children are alowed to torment dogs - and parents/owners say either -Oh how cute, the dog just takes it -or my dog is under MY control and wouldnt DARE touch the kids.
When are people going to TRAIN their children 1- dogs have feelings (physical and emotional) and 2 - dogs have rights and one right is not to be abused.
This doesnt help any dog with current issues, but it should would make life better for everyone if we just taught children (and adults) respect for other creatures!
Til then, guess we protect our dogs from hurting these kids. Both my rescue boys are awesome tih kids - thoguh one was starved and abused - I am thankful they came through ok

I'm sorry to hear about the problems your rescue has with small children. I hope it works out for you. I agree with Tricia, it's horrible the way children are allowed to torment animals especially considering that studies has shown that many people who are physically abusive later in life began tormenting animals first. I only wish the problem would be addressed when it first appears and children were taught to respect animals as well as other children and other people.

The day I got Rocky home, he did the same thing with my daughter. When she came through the door and seen him she hesitated and he lunged at her. His original owners were still there and I think sometimes dogs are better behaved when mommy or daddy is'nt there. I went outside and told her to stay out there until they left, and when she came in totally ignore him, let him come to her. She did that and they've been good friends since then. I'm not sure if this helps. Maybe keep something of the daughter's around with her scent on it also might help.
