It's exactly the same wherever in the world you are. Satin balls aren't a commercial food, it's a home-made mix based on ground raw beef.

How old is your dog? Satin balls can be a useful way of putting weight on quickly, but can only be given short-term and shouldn't be fed to emancipated or young dogs (that are thin because of their age).

Here's a thread with the recipe. http://www.boxerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23868 There are plenty more threads about it in the feeding and BARF forums.

Their ages don't present a problem, no.

Couple of Qs though - what do you currently feed them, and is there any particular reason they need to put on weight quickly? Satin balls are good for a fast weight gain, but because they're so rich, you shouldn't feed them more than once a day for a couple of weeks (and even then you might end up with runny poop probs - just so you know LOL). In short, they're not a long-term fix - that needs to be regular diet management - but can be useful every now and again with some dogs;

We got Blaze from a rescue and when we got him he was quite thin. We started feeding him 3 times a day (smallish portions) and he got to a pretty good size and them becomes really ill and last for a couple of days, which puts him back to being thin a drawen. We are feeding him chappie (a very easy digestable food) and he loves bread so we always break up 2 to 3 slices with each meal. He also gets dry food as well, again a easy digestable food.

Hmmm - well, a sensitive stomach like that might not cope too well with satin balls. If he's lost weight recently due to an illness, I'd personally be more inclined to try to build him back up gradually. You could also try some healthy additions to his food - things that are nutritious such as raw red meat, green tripe, eggs (raw or lightly scrambled), a little cottage cheese or peanut butter (easy on those last two) as they're high in protein but not so rich as the satin ball mixture. Still, if you do try the satin balls (and don't overdo it) you'll find out fairly quickly if it's too rich for him.

Thanks for the advice, you can have a look at him and tell me what you think, his picture is in the fawn section and heeded sleepy boy, he does look handsome though. I have posted a couple more of him but they havent appeared yet.

Thanks again. Jackie/Fraser

No, it's not that easy to tell since he's lying down, but although I can see some rib outlines, he doesn't look seriously skinny to me. Very cute face too :)

Well, it's really up to you if you want to give the satin balls a try. If you do, just feed one meal a day of satin balls, and keep the other his regular food (I'm assuming he eats twice daily - but if it's still three times, then I'd keep two meals as regular food). If it's a bit much for his stomach and he gets the runs or throws up, you can always revert to the regular food. A couple of weeks of that regime is enough.

As a longer term measure (or just alternatively) the addition of healthy raw or lightly cooked meats to his food could certainly be beneficial :) Good luck, anyway, and let us know how he gets on.

PS: I think you posted a couple of pics of a white boxer as well. Those weren't approved because they were too small. You can upload them again though, just a little larger please :) A minimum of about 200x200 pixels is needed for gallery pics, but 640x480 is the best size ;)
