I just got my first baby boxer, Leyla, a few weeks ago. She is the sweetest little puppy but is a little on the hyper side like most 10 week old puppies are. I have a cat and introduced them when I brought her home. The first day Leyla was getting adjusted and was calm. But the next day she made herself "at home" and just loves the cat. I think she thinks the cat is a moving toy. She pounces on the cat and loves playing with him. She had a sister and when we went to her previous house to pick her up she was playing with her sister. She now plays with my cat like she did with the other boxer pup. The problem is my cat is not aggressive and lets Leyla jump on her which is fine but I am afraid if she doesn't hurt the cat now when she gets older and bigger she will. She "puppy bites" the cat around the neck and that kind of scares me to. Do I discipline her or let her play? Any suggestions?

I don't think you have anything to worry about, when your cat gets enough she will teach leyla not to play so ruff,or will get away from her one. More than likely they will be best friends for ever, like mine are. My cats even groom my Boxers, I love to watch them together. LOL Boxer Pal, Hanley

My cat and boxers play all the time. I would let them go. Your cat will decide when he is done with the playing. My cat will jump on the counter or table when he is done, Brandy gets the hint and walks away. I love watching my kitty & dogs play it cracks me up tp see the cats tail go a mile a minute. LOL

I agree, just let them go. Kitty will let the pup know when enough is enough. If the cat was really afraid or getting injured I think she would be more aggressive with him, the claws would likely come out.
I know I used to worry about Baxter hurting my kitten, until one day I really sat and watched. I finally realized that 9 times out of 10 it was the kitten that started it in the first place.
They are fun to watch when they get playing. I sometimes wonder if I have either a race track or a wrestling ring in the house.

Boxer puppy and cat

Hello, I don't know if your cat has it's claws but if it does it will take care of itself if not and can't defend itself you might want to intervene some cats will let a dog kill it and not fight back. My cat is different she lacerated my boxer puppy's cornea when she was a baby, fortunately there was not any permanent damage. Anyway the pup leaves that cat alone, she will bark at her at times just to let her know that shes there. :)

we have a cat that is between 4 and 5 months of age and we just got a boxer puppy a little over 3 weeks ago (he's now almost 12 weeks). at first our cat hated the puppy, probably because he was an intruder but now they love each other. the cat is the one who instigates the play most of the time and is rougher on the dog than the dog is to him. the puppy is playful but very mellow for a boxer... i'm really suprised. he's better behaved than the cat and my 11 month old daughter (most of the time) haha!

like everyone else has said, i'm sure your cat wil defend itself when it gets tired of all the play, and it will learn how to avoid the puppy. when our cat has had enough he jumps up to a high spot where the puppy can't follow.

before my old Princess Mookitty passed away earlier this year, her and my two dogs used to play together all the time, and it was comical.when i got Mook, she was declawed all four paws, my dogs would follow her around and she would rol over onto her back and smack them.... i just dont know what theyd do if they ran into a cat with its claws!!!!!
