Mailani usually does not run away or hide. Most often she barks her head off (like she's mean) I think it is a protective instict, because she only does this when it's me and her alone. She loves my brother, BIL and dad that sometimes I don't think she can stand it. She is getting used to a neighbor, but she still barks until she sees fit it's ok to stop. But she does this to males and females in general if she does not know them.

The weird thing is.....she loves the park. And she goes up to ANYBODY (male or female) there trying to steal lovin from all the other dogs.

Ikaika is different. He barks at everyone when he is inside the apartment. When we are walking he loves women (like most guys do). He kidney beans and just goes ape when he sees a lady. However, he is cautious when approaching males. If he gets a whif of something he doesn't like about the person he lets them and I know.

Except for two occasions, Zeus has never been afraid of anyone. He wants to love on everyone the same--male, female, black or white, old or young, doesn't matter. The first time I remember we were at Petco; he was about 4 months old, so alot of people wanted to come up to him and say hi and love on him. He had no problem w/any of them, except for this one tall man. But I also did not feel comfortable around this man, maybe that was it, I don't know. He came up to us and complimented me on Zeus and started to reach down to pet Zeus when Zeus started growling. That was the first one.
The second time, we were taking our afternoon walk and happened to walk past a little girl jumping rope right outside her apt. there was a fence between us, but Zeus started barking like mad at her. i quickly pulled him away because her mom was freaking out. but zeus is almost two years old now. i can't imagine him being afraid of anyone or anything to the point where he hides.
