I have no idea how much research the original poster did or what her knowledge level of breeding is. I'm not a breeder. I don't know the full list of a what a breeder should be expected to know in my own country, much less in another country. What I do know is that she's asking for advice to have the best possible outcome for a dog that's already pregnant and for the future puppies. Let's give her the opportunity to get the information she needs instead of throwing out accusations that she's already made a mistake based on such limited information.

I couldn’t agree with your more. I know I have learned so much in my time as a member of the board in all aspects of dog ownership. I don’t think people should be so quick to jump on someone who is new and may not have of known more about the dos and don’ts of breeding, why not share the knowledge and help this person and her dog through this pregnancy and based on the knowledge she gets here maybe she will be able to make a more informed decision in the future regarding breeding

I also agree... we should try to inform and help in a kind way, so that they'll want to hang around and learn all they can.
I try not to be harsh or blunt in my posting but sometimes that's just the way it seems to be presented. It's hard to convey true feeling or emotion in a situation over the internet.
Though someone may be really speaking in kindness when they are trying to help and inform... it might come across as blunt over the net.

Thanks to everybody who replied to my questions.
I have had her checked out by the vet before i mated her i also went to a breeder who has been doing this for forty years and i can go to her for any quesitions i might need i just thought i would try this site first. But by some of the replies maybe i shoudnt have bothered:mad: Anyway i went to the breeder with her before she had her seond season and got advice and read up a bit about this.
The breeder said it was fine to breed her as did my vet who said she was in perfect health i havent just gone out and bread her without checking on this first. For one she is my baby and she comes before anything also we are planning on keeping one of Jess's pups so she has one of her babies as she is to me very special and i am not in this just to make money.
She is also not feeling to good and we have had her the vet who says she is not so sure she is actually pregnant so we have to take her back on Tuesday as it could even be a phantom pregnancy which she has had before and of which they suffer from. I am sorry if i offended anyone with my last post it is just sometimes i put things down wrong and miss out important facts i would like to her more about your suggestions.
PS. Ialso know what to feed my Baby i know you have to feed them moer and then double up on her food the last couple of weeks i was just looking for anything that might be good for her during this and also her babies. Jess is on James Wellbeloved dry food also chicken, turkey and she loves toast with butter. :D

I do not believe anyone meant to offend you. Everyone here is just extremely passionate about our beloved breed and a lot of us are either involved with boxer rescue or own a rescued boxer, so we see first-hand what the result of casual breeding can bring - and it's always heartache. :(

When people refer to the testing that is necessary before beginning a breeding program, they are speaking of a full panel of tests performed on the heart, hips, thyroids etc... of both parents - not just an "a-ok - she look's great" from the vet. You did not specify the exact tests performed on Miss Jess - can you clairfy that for us? Are the health tests necessary in the US to ensure a proper breeding program also necessary in the UK?

I think you may have missed the point of the health checks.
A vet check is unfortunately not what everyone was refering to.
They mean tested for genetic hereditary problems that often do occur in the boxer breed. Without testing for these problems you don't know what you will be passing on to her babies.
Also, knowledge of the bitches pedigree is essential for the same purpose. If you know little of her background, you will not know what genetic defects you could pass on to her young. These defects may not even be evident in your girl (she may carry the trait recessively) but may very well be passed on to her offspring.

Instead of breeding your girl why didn't you go back to your original breeder and see if you could get a puppy again from her lines?

Doen't this breeder you are now consulting with have any opinion on health testing in their dogs? They don't seem to be concerned with the health testing of yours.

The problem on this board is people take the issue to heart. Many new posters to this board (not refering to you) show up and take breeding very lightly like anyone could succeed in whelping a quality litter of puppies. And while may people do breed unknowingly and show success, you have the chance to be educated by people who love these dogs as much as you do.

I hope some of this reaches you in a positive manner, I don't want to anger anyone. I just want to tell it the way it is, some people chose not to hear. I wish you luck with your girl, I hope everything goes smoothly for her.

Thanks for your your replys the vet has checked her for these things and everything was fine her heart is great and the breeder that i went to knows the breeder who Jess is from and they are made of the same lines and the stud she is mated form is a champion dog and not just any dog this is not a back door breeder. I would not mate Jess if she was not in perfect health.
It would not be right to do that as i know and it also wouldnt be in anybodys interest to do this as the breeder that i went to prides themselves on thier boxers and there name.

Exactly Brenda. I am glad to hear Jess was checked out properly before breeding took place. And it's great that you have an experienced breeder to help you along the way. If you have any other questions or are in need of some advice, please feel free to post. I know that sometimes things posted by others seems to be so blunt but like I had said in my other post... that's just sometimes how things come across on the net and isn't really the poster trying to be mean.
