My Baby Jess Pregnant

hI MY LITTLE GIRL IS IN HER FIRST PREGNANCY AND I WOULD LIKE ANY ADVICE ANYONE CAN GIVE ME I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF SHE CAN HAVE A BATH AMONGST OTHER THINGS ALSO
IS THERE ANY FOOD THAT IS GOOD FOR HER I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE.
THE BREEDER THAT I HAVE GONE TO IS A PROFFESIONAL AND IS BEING A GREAT HELP I JUST DONT WANT TO BE RUNNING TO HER EVERY FIVE MINUTES.
IS THERE ANYONE WHO CAN SHARE ANY EXPERIENCES THEY HAVE HAD WITH ME

First of all let me say, I am not a breeder, so can't tell you much from experience.
I would imagine you could give her a bath... someone correct me if I am wrong. You'll certainly need to increase the amount of food she is getting. It's great that you have another breeder to help you out, he/she should be willing to help you and your boxer out, I know you don't want to feel like a pest, but if you really need to know something, the breeder should want to help.
How old is your girl?
What kind of food are you feeding now?
Did she go through all the proper health testing before being bred?

I am confused. I was looking at a thread that you had posted earlier this same month, saying that your Jess is 8 months old? Surely you wouldn't have bred her that young? Also the same thread says she has a pulled muscle she is to be recovering from for 3 months?
Am I looking at something wrong on the dates?

Actually the date on the post was from January 2003 where she stated her girl was 8 months old but that still only makes her 20 months old. I am not sure of the health testing they do in England but she is not old enough to have her hips checked properly, they should be 24 months old for that I beleive. Different parts of the world have different testing performed before breeding.

If you do not feel comfortable "bugging" the breeder who is mentoring you then maybe this is not such a good idea but since your girl is already pregnant I would suggest making a written list of questions you have for the breeder and ask them. They won't mind helping you and asnwering anything if it will ensure a safe and healty pregnancy/delivery.

Please get some books and do research online about breeding as these are basic questions you should know about before your female is pregnant not after. Ask your breeder as many questions as humanly possible BEFORE labor begins. Breeding can be very dangerous for the bitch and her pups and if you don't know what you are doing then it could make things much worse.

My guess is no health testing at all has been done since you arent sure even what to feed her but this is something you need to ask the breeder right away since she's already pregnant. I really really wish you luck with a good outcome. PLease find out as much information as you can quickly.

It is to my understanding that hip dysplasia is not something normally checked for in the UK (although if it is, they could be using something along the lines of Penn Hip which allows clearing at a much younger age). It seems their main concern is heart testing which can be done at 12 months. Ann will probably know more about the norms of breeding in the UK though since she's the one actually doing it.

Well not to be offensive, I'm certiany not trying to be, but it doesn't seem like she does know much about breeding practices in the UK. Of course this is only going by her first post about not knowing about how to feed her, etc. That is someting really important to know ahead of time if you are breeding.
It is possible I am mistaken and she does know about the health testing but it did not appear so from the first posting. If I am mistaken my apologies.

I do wish you the best outcome for your girl and her puppies and I hope the breeder you are working with can answer your questions.

Here's something for all of to think about...

I know it comes from being passionate about the topic, and I know I've been guilty of this myself...but I think a lot of us here at BW are awfully quick to jump down people's throats because a post or two indicates they acted without enough background knowledge. I know A LOT more now about proper breeding, nutrition, and health care after over two years of actively reading posts on BW than I did before I found this site. I'm glad I know it. Sure it would be nice if everyone who breeds their dogs gets all of the information they should have before they do, but if they didn't, and they come here for advice, we aren't helping them or the more global situation by criticizing them. That just makes people not come back, and then they lose an opportunity to learn really useful information. I think we all need to make more of an effort to provide information in a more helpful, friendly manner.

I have no idea how much research the original poster did or what her knowledge level of breeding is. I'm not a breeder. I don't know the full list of a what a breeder should be expected to know in my own country, much less in another country. What I do know is that she's asking for advice to have the best possible outcome for a dog that's already pregnant and for the future puppies. Let's give her the opportunity to get the information she needs instead of throwing out accusations that she's already made a mistake based on such limited information.

I agree with you. I was not trying to make anyone feel bad. I was just trying to point out to the others that the boxer girl wasn't actually 8 months old still and mentioned I didn't know anything about breeding practices in the UK. I don't think her mentoring breeder will mind answering her questions and since she is there and knows the poster and her dog she would best be able to give her the answers she needs. That's all I was trying to say to her and I don't think I was trying to sound offensive but if it came off that way my apologies. I'm sure her mentor will be happy to help her have a good outcome and I don't think she would see it as "bugging" her to find out what she needs to know. Making a list of questions to ask would help her not to forget to ask something she wanted to know and finding out as much info as posisble before the birth can only help the situation to a good outcome which I think is what everyone wishes for the girl and her puppies.
