my baby has trouble healing after getting spayed

Has anyone had trouble with their baby healing after getting spayed? Alex already has had to be re-operated on for her incision (it got infected and kept opening up) The vet has put in staples and i have already had to take her back to have her checked. Vet had to put in more staples.
I am really upset since I tried to do the right thing by having her fixed....now it has turned into a horrible experience.
I am not letting her jump and I am keeping her as quiet as possible.
The vet has been really good in the past and is as confused as me.
Anyone else heard of this? or if anyone has any other suggestions. I would like to hear them.

Clover had a horrible time with her spay - licked her incision clean open, twice - then I took her back they restitched her, then put a sticky ace bandage on her to keep her from licking as well as to keep it together. Well on a car ride somewhere, she managed to rip a hole in the bandage so we found a vet, and they had to rip the bandage off, along with all her hair, and put staples back in. She was not happy. She had a slight infection from the incision being wet. It took about a full month of going to the vet before we got the okay for her to resume normal play.

I finally got to the point where I'd take sterile hollow bones, fill them with peanut butter, freeze them (I made 3 or 4) and I would give those to here, took a good 3 hours to get through the whole thing.

An e-collar will keep the dog from licking at incisions. It is a piece of plastic that comes up from their neck like a cone. You can ask your vet for one, or I've seen them at pet stores. Also, they sell chewgaurd which can be sprayed directly on the incision to deter them.

You might want to give her a bit of extra Vitamin C and E to help her heal during this time when there is more stress on her immune system. It would be a low dosage compared to what people take, but I'm not sure of the correct amount.

We give 125mg of Vitamin C 2 times per day.

She is probably having a reaction to the buried sutures, closing the muscle and tissue under the skin. I have had several with this same problem. The plastic cone is called an Elizabethan Collar. Ask your vet about one. The dogs don't like it at first, but it would only be for a couple of days.

Alex finally seems to be doing a little better. WE did get the collar for her on the first trip back to the vet and it does help.
Alex did have to get more staples but now they seem to be holding.
Hopefully, we have made it over the hump.....
