You are not a bad boxer mom! My boxer Bo tore his Cruciate Ligament while he was wrestling with one of my foster dogs on the wood floors. I felt bad and thought that if I would have stopped them earlier he wouldn't have had to go through the surgery. Accidents happen and all you can do is be there to help him through the healing process.
:::::super, strong healing vibes being sent to Legend:::::

You aren't a bad mommie at all. Don't even think that. These things happen, especially with such rambunctous dogs as Boxers! My Maggie has done the same thing (luckily no breaks or anything serious) and Susie tried to jump a creek once and plowed full speed into the bank on the other side with her front legs and chest. She wobbled for a while after that.

Luckily, most are minor injuries. I'm sure Legend will be fine soon. My Maggie and Susie give big boxer hugs to him for a speedy recovery.

Yes, there is a special rule that dogs only get sick on weekends and holidays and late at night when the vet isn't open. I think they all got together at the Dog Union meeting and made that a rule. :D

Wow...you guys RULE! I feel much better now....and although I wish I would have steered him away from the holes while he was romping about, I know that would have been nearly impossible!

I guess I'm not a bad boxer mommy :D

Update...

Legend is getting around wonderfully in just a day's time! He has chewed his bandage off his toes, so now when he walks around on the kitchen floor or the deck outside, it sounds like a peg leg pirate walking around...too funny!

We're trying to keep him from chewing it off but I can't think of a way! He's home alone all day and with time on his hands I guess he just chews and chews at it.

He was running up and down steps yesterday, chasing cats and jumping on the furniture..(which we are trying to discourage or he'll never heal!)

Thanks so much for all the well wishes...he's back to being my normal boxer boy again! :D :D :D :D

Deb, you are a great boxer mom!!!
Tobee did the same thing when he was about Legend's age. I was in the house on the computer. Jake and Tobee were outside playing. I usually did not leave Tobee alone outside when he was a puppy, but for some reason that day I did. It is not like I could have done anything, but I would have felt much better had I been outside.
Anyway, I was on the computer and then all of a sudden I heard the most awfull howl and cry. It even scared the cats in the house. I ran outside to see Tobee lying on the ground by the deck. I picked him up and took him in. Ok, so the first thing I did was call Scott at work.
See, we have five cats, four at the time. There have been a few times, that they have caught thier claws on the carpet and limp for a few days. The first time it happened it was a Saterday and we rushed Diva to the vet. It cost us $65 just for them to say she'll be fine. So I called Scott first, to see what I should do.
So I am holding Tobee and talking to Scott. Scott said I should Tobee down and see what happens. Tobee screams in pain. Scott was like "Take him to vet RIGHT now!!!". Luckily for us, I was not working at the time, and it was a weekday.
I took Tobee to the vet. They exmained him. He hobbled around for them, even putting presure on the leg. He didn't even whimper. The vet thought I was crazy, I could tell. Then they went to hand him to me from the exmaining table and Tobee gave out a horrible howl again.
The vet still said he would be fine and to take him home. I think he might have gave me a pain pill, but I am not sure.
The next morning, Saterday, Tobee was still miserable. I took him in first thing. The vet took x-rays, and is definetly broken. They knocked him out and splint it. And I went home. Not the end of that. Before, Tobee could at least stand and hobble around. The vet put the splint on wrong and Tobee was even more uncomfortable. He could not stand and peed all over himself.
I called the vet, and made him come back in to work (they close at noon on Saterdays). He took the splint off and gave Tobee a shot for the pain. He said Tobee would heal fine without a splint, but would not recommend it. I told him not to bother with an other one.
Tobee is now fine. I no longer go to that vet. Partly to due to Tobee's leg and one of our kittens dying.
I was so worried, that since Tobee was still growing, he would permanently injure his leg. I can't even remember which leg it is now.
I know that was long, but I had to share. We think Tobee was trying to jump on the deck after Jake and fell.

Give Legend a big hug from us, Tobee and Jake. It did not take long for Tobee to feel better and start running around like crazy again.
((((Hugs)))))) ((((((Kisses)))))

Isn't it amasing how they can ignore injuries until all the playing is over with?? it's hard to find a safe place to play, up here in alaska, we don't have a dog park, there is talk of one being made though, and when you let your dog run in what you think is an empty field. you run across glass shards, wire, and sometimes animal leg hold traps, or snares. it can be pretty scarey sometimes.

Fear not, Legend will be back on his feet before you know it.
Early last month my 1 1/2 yr old female fawn had surgery to repair a torn posterior cruciate and partially torn anterior cruciate ligament in one of her hind legs (also due to an accident). We are 4 weeks into an 8-10 week rehabilitation period.
Young boxers bounce back quickly.
Hope your fella gets well soon!

Tanya --

WOW what a story! I'm so glad to hear that Tobee is better! My husband got a little teary-eyed when he saw Legend with that splint on his leg, and I assured him that its going to happen, and he will be fine.

(I've only seen my husband cry 3 times, and once was over his cat being injured, once was because of Legend :( )

I went home and told hubby about all the stories you guys have posted about your own babies getting hurt, and not to worry so we are both feeling much better.

Thanks for all the support!!!

I am sure Legend will be back to himself very soon:) It is just part of life, I guess, for our babies to get hurt. We can't control everything, no matter how hard we try.

I have aslo rarely seen my husband try. The worst was when our kitten died. We had only had Ruby Rhod for one month and he never weighed over a pound. We did everything possible to keep him here with us, but it was not ment to be. We mourned him like we had had him for ever. It is amazing how it does not take very long to for them to get in our hearts.:(
