Thanks for all the Happy Birthday wishes. I stopped and picked up a birthday balloon, Frosty Paws and chicken tender...I tried to take a picture with the balloon but Rocky wanted to get away from that crazy thing. He is laying all stretched out on my bed exhausted from the birthday party....and full of treats...
A quick questions for Donna, Wanda & Melanie or anyone who knows...Rocky is panting most of the time when he is up and around...what does this mean? I know they do it when they are hot but he's not hot..Getting around on the three legs with tumor getting larger all the time makes his moving around harder but wanted your opinion, Deep down I know it's his bodies way of trying to fight off that ugly cancer monster that's taking over his body...ok I'm crying now got to go....thanks girls....Rocky & Mom

I know what you mean about the panting. When my Heidi was sick my husband would carry her out to go potty, she would walk back in and then just pant and pant. It got to the point that whenever she was standing she was panting. I think it is just the body's reaction to the stress it is going through. It helps them to breathe easier. I know it's hard to listen to - I would always be on edge when she was panting. But I think they just know what to do to make themselves feel better. Hugs and kisses to you and Rocky!

Don't cry.... I wish I could say something to ease your pain... you have our love and support and hugs.
As for Rocky's panting... Ginger did that too. Though they are different types of cancer, Ginger panted a LOT. I have a paper in my Jeep where I wrote down Dexters rate of breathing versus Ginger's rate of breathing... and let me tell you the difference was very BIG. It scared me, that's why I wrote it down.... When they were both laying on the couch, resting, I got out my watch and counted. Dexter breathed in maybe 20 times a minute, while Ginger breathed in maybe 90 or 100 times a minute (at times I couldn't even count them) -- while RESTING. I think hers was partly because of her medicine, but also because she was just tired. Getting around on 3 legs is pretty demanding, and battling cancer is pretty demanding.
Don't panic... it was pretty "normal" for Ginger to pant often. It's scary, I know, and like I said they are different cancers, so maybe someone else has more advice. I wish I had more to say.... and better advice.

I guess I worry because the vet said this type cancer normally takes over vital organs and the lungs usually get it first becase he is breathing I guess the cancer in some sort of way. I know the cancer is stressing his body. Last night he got up like 4 times and I tried to get him to lay down on his bed in the living room and me on the couch where I could rub him but he just whinned until I took him back to bed. At first it was like he sort of helped me when I picked him up but now he is just dead weight. My bed is up fairly high and it's getting so hard for me to pick him up that many times a night but I know how much it means to him. My wrist and back are starting to give out. He is so pitiful when he does the whinning....I just can't stand it so off we go back to bed. What we want do for our boxer babies...I love him soooo much.......Rocky & Mom
Kiddo pants a lot more than "normal" also.Its usually right after I get home or after she eats.It just takes her longer to recover from excitement I think. She was panting all the time and seemed uncomfortable when she was on higher doses of prednisone. We cut the pred back and the pee leaking and excwss panting waned a bit. When she has a "spell" and appears to be in pain there is a lot of panting along with tremors-labored breathing is not a good sign ...that's when I prepare myself for a vet visit. Hugs to you & Rocky
