Completely Boxer Crazy
Glad to hear that you weekend went well.

I have some info for you. I just received my Whole Dog Journal and there is a very interesting article in it about Alternative Cancer treatments. Most of it is herbal/Chinese medicine. Some of it is nutritional. It has proven to be effective in both humans and animals. Everyone is going to respond differently. My thought is that it cannot hurt to try.

The article is rather long and I believe that it would be an infringement of their copyright to copy and paste it in here. And again, it is six pages long. There is a section that provides resources for further information.

You can call Whole Dog Journal to order a copy of the February 2006 issue, Volume 9,Number 2. They can be reached at phone number removed by Moderator: Read the Rules. You can also order it online and immediately download it at www.whole-dog-journal.com The price for a copy is $7.50.

There is a grey box at the end of the article. I am going to quote one paragraph.

"With cancer, there are no guarentees. What works perfectly for one dog may not work at all for another, and there is simply no way to tell in advance what the outcome will be. A veterinarian, whether using conventional, complementary/integrative, or alternative therapies can describe only how most patients have responded in the past, not how an individual patient will respond today or tomorrow. Vets who use alternative therapies claim their cancer patients are more comfortable and happier then patients who receive conventional treatment, but this does not mean these patients outlive their prognoses or are cured."

There are case studies in the article of dogs that lived > one year with these therapies and dogs that died from conditions unrelated to their cancer.

It is a very good article no matter what you decide.

Praying that your week is as good as your weekend.

Sorry to hear what you are going through. We lost our 9 yr old in August/05 and it was the hardest decision that we ever had to make. It happened so fast and I wish that we would have had more time with her.

Take care of yourself and your precious little one and I hope that you have lasting loving memories.

I have been reading your post and it sounds like things are better with your babies...gee how much can one girl take? Rocky has been doing simply great if it wasn't for seeing his leg you wouldn't know he was even sick. He slept all thru the night with me last night and was all wingles this morning and at lunch. He woke me once last night and must have been dreaming (that's what I want to think) his whole body felt like it was jared I just said Rocky wake up and he was fine...nervous mom. I try not to think beyond today..I told my husband how wonderful you and Donna and Melanie had been. I know you must be releived somewhat with the results of your test. Hopefully they will get to the problem and get it all fixed. Keep me updated and as always you all are in our prayers....Rocky & Mom

:) That's great news Vicky!! I'm glad to hear Rocky is feeling well! Ginger was that same way... you would never have known she was sick, except for the leg. I tried to limit her playing (only throwing her ball a few feet, and not letting her be TOO active for too long), and I think she got mad at me for it! ;) She just loved to stand there and fuss at me! If I were sitting on the couch, she'd stand about 3 feet in front of me and BARK BARK BARK nonstop! When I would try to grab her (to give her some lovin), she'd pull away from me, as if she were saying "no, I want to PLAY!"! She didn't understand I was doing it for her own good, and for my sanity! She made me so nervous when she played... I worried about that leg (just like you with Rocky). I'm really glad things are going well for Rocky... I've been thinking about you guys!

And yes, I think Rocky must have been dreaming when he jolted like that. Dexter does that sometimes, and sometimes when he does he kicks the fire out of me! ;) It's an interesting way to be woken up... a nice swift kick in the back, or the ribs, or the stomach! LOL!!! I love it! He's even gotten me in the face a few times! There's nothing like going to work with a scratch or a bruise on your face and telling people "don't worry, the dog did it"! I get such strange looks from my coworkers sometimes!!

You are doing the right thing... taking one day at a time! That's all you can do. You're doing great! Rocky is lucky to have such a great mom! Give him an extra hug and a kiss from us!!

And of course... BIG BIG HUGS to you! Stay strong!

Yea Rocky!....LOL-I think anyone who sleeps with their Boxer babes know exactly how it feels to be kicked by the "child" during a dream. Just dropped Chancey off at the vet. Although the swelling had gone down considerably, she did develope an almost seizure like episode early this morning-go figure. I left her with a note saying test everything!....it was more like palsey tremors than the epeleptic seizures one of my Boxer babies who is at the bridge used to have..........one day at a time ....and to think my Kiddo with the cancer was what brought me to the forum and she's doing the best!
Hugs & wiggles
