So I took Kandie to her vet for her yearly and she only ways 42 pounds! OMG! I feed her 3 - 4 cups of NutroMax High Energy everyday and she still looks frail! I feed her human food every now and then, but I don't want her to get sick from it or get too used to it and not eat her dog food. What is it with the eggs? Will it help her gain weight? And the hamburger meat? Can't raw meat cause worms? If I sound new, its because I am. I have had Kandie for 8 months now, but I am not a pro when it comes to feeding her. Her vet did say to let her eat as much as she wants and I feel I do. When we feed her, she always has food left over in her bowl but she is full. She is really thin. Her ribs show and her hip bones even stick out a little. I have seen a lot of Boxers and are huge and they are way younger than my Kandie Lynn! Any ideas to fatten up my baby?

Thanks!
Alissa :o)

what did your vet say about kandies weight? boxer's will keep growing till around 2 years of age. then they will start to grow out and fill in. she just might be a lancky little girl. she still has time.if you go to the feeding threads I think there is a meatball recipe. good luck

Her vet was fine with her. He said she was healthy just a little thin. That was about it. What about the eggs thing? What does that do for dogs?

I have a 2 yrs old boxer female and she is a slim 45 lbs., but full body.
Kandie will grow a bit more, I'm sure and fill out. She's still quite young.

Hugs and don't worry too much.........just like humans, a young dog is better off being on the thin side.......it's a good thing to start out that way as most of us - dogs and hooman beans tend to gain as we get older ......sigh :)
Don't be afraid of adding to her kibble - it's true.....she may become spoiled and want it all the time, but that doesn't have to be a "bad thing".
My dogs eat human quality food added to their kibble every day - if you don't want to feed BARF (raw) or homecook - you don't have to! There are lots of things you can keep in the cupboards to add to her kibble"
eggs (some feed raw - I nuke them for 1 min and they are soft and runny)
yogurt
cottage cheese
canned mackeral
hamburger (or any other meat) frozen into meatball proportions and nuked right from the freezer - brown on the outside, rare in the middle)
Oatmeal, rice, barley, pasta (my dogs eat a grain based loaf with eggs and raw fruit for breakfast - topped w/yogurt
vegetables either prepared for them or leftover from your own dinner.
I know that vets preach "DOGFOOD ONLY" as they see many too many dogs that are overweight because they get too much people food......but it is not a sin to add good quality (the fresher the better) human food to their diet. Many if not all of the premium kibbles tout their ingredients as "human quality".
If she stays on the thin side , don't worry about it. It's a "Good Thing" (as Martha says)!
I have a 76 pound male who gains weight by smelling food and a 44 lb female who eats the same amount as he does and is trim, fit and muscular. A lot of it is metabolism (where can I go buy a faster metabolism for myself?)

alissamay-
the eggs, either raw, scrambled, or boiled, will help them with protein and their coats.
i wouldn't worry too much about your dog's weight. females are generally to weigh less than the males and she seems like she's within the range for her age. you don't really want to put too much weight on them too quickly or else this will cause health and joint problems.
if you are interesting in fattening her up, try the recipe for "satin balls" in the "recipes" forum.

my dileas is about the same weight and is 18 month's old, i mentioned this to my vet but she said she was just a small boned dog and very healthy and in great proportion. she is very active, i wouldn't say skinny but just quite small. as long as she's healthy and happy that's good enough for me. i wouldn't swap her for the world, she's just perfect as she is!
