Muscle Meat?

I was just wondering if any one could help me out there? I'm a little confused about mucle meat percentages of meals. Does 50% rmb's and 20% muscle meat and the rest veggies etc sound right? (I think I read that somewhere) And what if the rmbs are good and meaty? Is the muscle meat still needed?

I started out with wings and necks, then I went to whole chicken carcass. Shake couldn't handle the job of chewing them so I purchased ground carcass today. Should I be adding extra meat to the meal? I haven't so far except for offal.

Rec bones... Shake is allegic to beef of all sorts? Any rec bones suggestions for him? Someone mentioned pork necks. Can they be rec. bones?

Thanx for any help:)

This is what Geoffy eats:
55% RMBS
30% organ meats
5% muscle meat
10% veggies

It seems to work well for us. When I fed his less organ meat, I could tell that his coat was not so nice. I increased the amount of organ meats per suggestion of several breeders on Boxer Raw Feeders list, and his coat has improved dramatically. Also, he loves his organ meats (particularly liver - he is CRAZY for liver).

Geoffy, too, is allergic to beef of all sorts

I really feed very little muscle meat, because the RMBs that I feed have A LOT of meat on them as it is - imagine whole rabbbit. I only supplement with muscle meat if the RMBs are skinny on meat. If I feed muscle meat on top of his regular meaty bones, Geoffy gets the runs. Also, I feed hearts but count it as organ meat - it could count as muscle meat.

Geoff does not get recreational bones as in cow femurs. For one, he, too, is allergic to all kinds of beef, and secondly, I have heard one too many stories of how rec bones damage their teeth in the long run. There might not be any truth to it, or there might be, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. He goes and gets his own bullysticks (amazingly enough, those don't trigger his beef allergies) when he wants to chew. Also, when I feed him lamb necks, I sometimes get a whole neck, so it contains the spine - I cut off the extra meat, leave about 12 ounces or so, and it takes him at least 2 hours to eat his dinner that way.

I don't know if pork neck bones could be recreational bones. I routinely feed them as RMBs and Geoffy just chews them down to nothing. It doesn't even take him any visible effort, and it certainly doesn't take long. :)

Keeping in mind that each dog is an individual and these amounts will vary, the typical recommended amounts of RMB's is 60-80% and then the remaining amount should consist of muscle meat, offal(10%) and veggies. I too have read that feeding more offal than commonly recommended is better, I've seen good results in doing so. As for pork necks bones, I think most people feed them as an RMB. Whole ground carcasses shouldn't require any additional meat to be added, it should contain lots of goodies :)

Thank you so much for that tidbit of info. I've been feeding whole ground carcass as their rmbs as of late. I feel better knowing that they are getting enough. I'll add more offal as well....they tolerate it well and go NUTS for it too!
