Thank you all so much for your prayers and HEALING VIBES! We are not out of the "woods" yet but each day he seems to be a little bit better. I have not had a lot of luck finding info on seroid responsive meningitis ( they call it this because they have no idea how or why our babies get it, they only know that it is responsive to steroid therapy) I found this one site with some info

http://www.vetinfo.com/

but not alot. I have talked to 2 people that I know in the Veterinary field and they are doing some research as well. Neither of them had ever heard of this. Thank you all for your kind words and inspiration, it really means ALOT! I will keep you posted. Oh, has anyone had their pups on Baytrill? This is one of the steroids that my Murph is on. I have heard that it can't be taken with dairy, iron, calcium products. Also, I have been wrapping his meds in cooked bacon to get them down. Any good suggestions on how to meds in our little guys. I have to give him 5 different pills 2 times a day and he is a clever little guy when it comes to finding "stuff" in his COOKIES!

Thank you AGAIN, I can't say it enough, for all of your prayers and kind words. ..... Murphys MOST APPRECIATIVE Mom

Pill Solutions

If they have given you capsules, I have a great solution: open the capsule and mix the contents with peanut butter - Gus was on antibiotics for 3 weeks for a skin irritation and we had to give him a pill 2x daily; I think he was very sad when peanut butter and dried apple pill time ended! Our vet said that this can work with solid pills as well if you just crush them with a spoon. We tried all the easier alternatives first, such as wrapping them in cheese, etc. but Gus would always eat around the pill :) They are smart little babies aren't they.

I am praying for your baby's full recovery... If God watches over sparrows, he certainly watches over boxers!

Murphys Mom - Muggsy had Meningitis a few months ago. The vet thinks he got it from the heart worm vaccine that was recalled. If you have any questions I will be happy to answer them. Muggs did not have to go on steroids he stayed on a very expensive antibiotic for a month and now he is good as new. I wish you the best of luck with Murphy. Please ask me any question you can think of. I thought my vet had lost it when he said meningitis I didn't think dogs could get it. Muggs was awfully sick when he diagnosed it. Did Murphy get a spinal tap. We decided against it unless the antibiotics didn't work since there is substantial risk with a spinal tap. Give Murphy a hug for me and Muggs. Hugs help

First of it:Sending prayers and positive vibes +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++that your baby will be ok.

My boys take 4 pills twice a day, and the way we do it is with fresh, organic, ground turkey.
First a little taste of it, then the pills in little balls.
We make tem sit and bring up so they lift their heads, and take it, and we shovel the second, third and fourth ball and the final pure meat ball, so they don't have much of time to lick around and think, just swallow it to get the next one, always looking up.

My boys are "wizards" as to clean and spit pills...

Wishing you good luck.

Sending good vibes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ for Murphy and a big {{{{{{{{{HUG and peace}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} to you and your family.

hi,
how is murphy now?
i know its a worry but our wee babies are strong! my wee angel dileas had meningitis and phnemonia last year and is now back to her old self. she was so poorly that she surprised everyone by pulling through it. she was on medication for a while, but now she is as fit and healthy as ever. she has always been very active and healthy and it came out of the blue. i too was so worried and unable to find much info on the illness. i also would recommend www.vetinfo4dogs.com for any health issues. if you have any questions regarding this please get in touch and i will do my best to help.
best wishes!

I don't have any info on menengitis, but wanted to send positive healing vibes Murph's way! I have read on here about a few other Boxer's who've made a full recovery from it, so I'm sure he'll be fine.

Also, Jan-one of our wonderful mods, suggest to get Kraft cold pack cheese, give him 1 bite, then quickly give the 2nd, and have the 3rd bite with the pill inside. You have to do it in quick succession, so by the 3rd bite he'll just be gobbling! Or you can try the "pill pockets", which I've found to work great, because Herkie is quite crafty as well. www.healthypets.com They're fairly inexpensive, and I received mine within 2 days of ordering them! Please keep us posted on how Murph is doing.

another vet if needed

There is a Neurologist Vet in Rockville. he is supposed to be one of the best. His name is Dr. Steve Steinberg. I just took my 8 month old boxer boy there and he suspects meningitis too. Just wanted to give you his name if you want to change.
