Mothering? Or Dominance?

Please don't buy into the whole "dominance" BS. That is the problem with the construct of dominance...it lends itself so easily to misinterpretation. Dominance is not a behavior, nor is it a trait in a dog. A dominant dog is a dog who wins a contest for a resource. If there is no contest, or resource, then dominance does not exist.

Your dog sitting on your other dog is NOT dominance - both of your dogs are teenagers and they are going to try new behaviors and see how far they can get away with one another (and YOU) before there is a protest.

And please, yes, get a picture! :)

Why does either one of them have to be?

Oh its not a problem that we are worried about. We dont punish her for sitting on Jakey. We were just curious as to why she would do that! Its so funny when she does it and when I can figure out how to post a pic of her doing I will definitely put it up!

Thanks everyone for the great feedback!

My "kids" do things like that all the time. Well, not the humping, but the sitting on top of each other. Harvard likes to scootch right up next to Ellie, and she'll growl at him. He'll look at her all innocent like, then scoot a little closer lol.

I just chalk it up to normal sibling I'm-going-to-annoy-you-because-I-love-you behavior.
